Support Worker (HCA or SCW):, Disability Day service, Millstreet, Co. Cork
Purpose of Role: to provide a range of services to individuals with physical and intellectual disabilities and/or autism. Our day service in Cork provides activities and care for our clients in a person centered and holistic service in partnership with the persons circle of support.

Salary: Support Worker starting from €14.00 - €17.38, Social Care Workers starting from €15.00 to €18.62 dependent on qualifications, experience with additional pay for full driver's licence holders who will drive for their role. New starters in the company are expected to start on the first point of the scale.

Shifts Available: 8am to 4pm Tuesday - Friday
Working Hours: Day service is open from 8am to 4pm, Mon - Fri with some flexibility required for shifts later into the evening should it be required.
Location: Day service at Millstreet, Co. Cork
Reporting Relationship: This post will report to the Service Teamlead and Day service Manager.

Vetting: All applicants will be subject to reference checks, Garda Vetting and a request to provide security clearance from any country in which they resided for more than 6 months after their 16th birthday.

Essential Criteria:
Permission to work in Ireland.
Candidates must have a relevant qualification.
* Support Workers (HCA) must have a minimum of a Full QQI Level 5 qualification in Health or Social Care or equivalent.
* Social Care Workers require at least a Full QQI level 7 qualification in Social Care AND be registered with CORU as a Social Care Worker by 30/11/2025
OR
* have 2 years of experience working as a Social Care Worker AND be registered with CORU as a Social Care Worker.
A positive and friendly approach to supporting clients and colleagues
Good understanding of the rewarding work supporting individuals with physical and intellectual disabilities.
Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection requirements
The following will be seen as an advantage:
* Full clean Irish or EEA driver's licence at category B (car) and be willing to drive our vehicles for the role
* One year of experience in a Healthcare or Social Care setting.
* Experience/knowledge of report writing and client support plans.
* An understanding of the requirements of working to regulatory standards for HSE & HIQA.

An understanding of how to prevent and manage challenging behaviour.
Strong communication & interpersonal skills

Main Duties/ Responsibilities:
Support service users with an intellectual / physical disability, autism.
Ensure service users are supported to make sense of their environment, learn new skills and maximise their independence.
Assist individuals with their daily living activities.
Support individuals to live a meaningful life, with a priority focus on equal citizenship.
Facilitate everyone supported by the services to actively participate and integrate into the community.
Act as an advocate for clients / residents
Actively promote the participation of clients / residents in the formulation and execution of their care/placement plan.
Accompany service users to appointments and other events as required
Assist service user's that have reduced mobility.
Undertake duties as may be assigned by your direct manager/team leader to support the care of service users.
Manage challenging behaviours, using a positive behaviour support plan.
Provide reports on client activities to management
Attend staff meetings and contribute constructively to the ongoing progression/implementation of the care plan.
Please note that mandatory closure periods are in place for our day service. One week each at Christmas and Easter with two separate weeks in the Summer. Day service employees are required to keep annual leave for these periods. Flexibility to re-deploy to other parts of our service during closure periods can be approved by special request if annual leave is required outside of the closure periods.
