The Data Center Infrastructure Delivery organization is looking for an Operations Manager with a successful, progressive career history in people management and tactical operations management. The team is responsible for the installation of fiber optic cabling and server racks across the Amazon data center platform.
Key job responsibilities
The ideal candidate will possess a technology background that enables them to understand the complexities of the sophisticated network architecture of Amazon data centers. To be a qualified candidate for this role you must have experience operating in large-scale data center or a manufacturing environment and a display a demonstrated ability to think broadly and strategically, as this is needed to align the future of Infrastructure Delivery with the larger objectives of the business.
You will be responsible for managing group of technicians who are installing and building server rack capacity for our customers. You will be expected to travel where and when needed for projects and to develop and maintain relationships with vendors and suppliers as advocate for Amazon around the world. You must be passionate about the Customer Experience, think and act globally and want to contribute to innovations in the area of Data Center Infrastructure.
- Managing and developing teams of technicians and engineers, providing both technical and leadership expertise and ensuring highest levels of performance.
- Delivering Server Capacity to existing Data Centers
- Helping build and Install Server Capacity to new Data Centers
- Constantly improving all our processes and procedures. We believe there is nothing we cannot improve
- Assisting & managing relationships with external vendors & contractors
- Liaising with internal teams & management groups
- Ensuring we adhere to and exceed local Health & Safety standards in all our Data Centers
- Creating and maintaining metrics on all aspects of our Data Centers and utilizing those metrics to drive positive changes
- Assisting in implementing service methodologies including incident management, problem management, change management, capacity management, etc.
A day in the life
You start by reviewing installation schedules and coordinating teams across multiple data center sites. Morning standups with install crews set priorities and address equipment needs. You coach team members on procedures, conduct one-on-ones with direct reports, and recognize contributions and performance. On the data center floor, you conduct site walks, verify infrastructure readiness, and ensure safety compliance. You troubleshoot logistics challenges, coordinate vendor deliveries, and collaborate with engineering teams on technical issues. You track installation progress, update stakeholders on timelines, and adjust resource plans. Your day ends preparing tomorrow's schedules and reviewing team development goals.

Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Technical field, or equivalent with extensive experience in data center operations, infrastructure deployment, or manufacturing operations
- Experience of managing large technical teams
- Experience with incident management, vendor coordination, and implementing safety and security protocols
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Project, Visio, PowerPoint)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in one or more of the following areas: data center or network capacity planning, data center or network infrastructure program/project management, or related technical fields
- Experience delivering projects within scope, time, budget and quality
- Experience hiring, developing, and managing high-performing technical teams
- Experience with process improvement techniques such as Kaizen, Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma
- Experience translating customer needs into business requirements
