Offer Description

The Insight Research Ireland Centre for Data Analytics at University College Cork (UCC) is looking for a highly motivated Research Assistant. The researcher will be employed on a trustworthy agentic artificial intelligence project. The successful candidate will be working with a team of researchers on a range of topics, including deep learning and large language models for multiple domains. It is envisaged that the candidate will be located on University College Cork’s campus. The candidate should hold a bachelor degree, with a good track record of theoretical and technical work. Ideally, they will have experience in artificial intelligence or related areas such as machine learning and data analytics. Candidates with a background in other areas such as the application of data analytics in sustainability and healthcare applications will also be considered. Experience with multidisciplinary teams is an asset. The position is for 7 months depending on the start date, as award ends on 30.06.26. The successful candidate will be appointed at Research Assistant level depending on their experience and qualifications. The research group leading this project is championed by Dr Harry Nguyen in UCC aimed at establishing a reliable and trustworthy AI systems for multiple domains, including healthcare and sustainability. The hired researcher will be encouraged to collaborate with other members of the group both inside and outside of UCC. The group is part of the School of Computer Science and Information Technology, and the trustworthy agentic AI project is hosted by Dr Harry Nguyen at the Insight Centre for Data Analytics.

Project Title: Trustworthy Agentic AI System

The key duties and responsibilities include:

* To work under the direction of the Principal Investigator.
* To provide assistance in conducting research activities, including planning, organizing, conducting, and communicating research studies within the overall scope of a research project.
* To coordinate and perform a variety of independent and team activities involved in the collection, analysis, documentation and some interpretation of information/results.
* To undertake tasks which may include recording results and preparing technical reports including conclusions and recommendations. To coordinate the development of forms, questionnaires and the application of qualitative and quantitative research techniques; write procedures manuals for data collection and coding.
* To present information on research progress and outcomes to others responsible for the research project.
* To provide guidance as required to any support staff and/or research students assisting with the research project, as agreed with the Principal Investigator/Grant holder.
* Ideally to contribute to the publication of findings.
* To confer with the Principal Investigator in developing plans for research projects and to discuss the interpretation of results and the preparation of manuscripts for publication.
* To work with the Principal Investigator to develop project plans and support research on trustworthy agentic AI systems.
* Collection of data, research and record maintenance in the research area.
* Support the Principal Investigators in the design and development of the research protocols and experiments.
* Development of baselines and frameworks for trustworthy/agentic AI systems.
* To perform a variety of duties involved in supporting the research project and grant applications.
* To perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
* To facilitate dissemination of information required.
* To assist in the development of promotional material including website, brochure material, reports etc.
* To develop internal contacts and to develop a knowledge and understanding of the research project and research related work.
* To co-ordinate own day-to-day work to support the research project.
* To undertake all necessary and recommended training provided by UCC and Centre including HR, Research Services Office, H&S, library, EDI, EPE, and IT services etc.
* To undertake duties assigned by the Principal Investigator or his/her nominee in support of the research area.
* To carry out any additional duties as may reasonably be required within the general scope and level of the post.

Specific Requirements

* A graduate qualification in a field of discipline relevant to the area of investigation i.e. a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Arts or relevant discipline.
* Some research experience is desirable.
* Good report writing and presentation skills
* Good analytical skills and computer skills.
* An ability to work independently to a tight schedule.
* Capability of working effectively within a team to achieve results.
* Demonstrated commitment to AI research.
* Ability to maintain records and excellent computer skills.
* Excellent organisational skills, interpersonal skills, report writing, and IT skills including a proven ability to work to deadlines.
* Ability to relate to staff in a collegial manner.
* Excellent communication, both written and spoken
* High levels of initiative are encouraged.
* Knowledge of AI systems and deep learning architecture.
* Hands-on experience of working on trustworthy AI.
