Capital Project Accountant

This role is pivotal in managing the financial aspects of property and infrastructure investment, with a strong focus on capital project budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, compliance, and process improvement.
\
The successful candidate will collaborate with the Investment and Reporting Controller to manage capital project costs and ensure sustainable financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Collaborate with the Investment and Reporting Controller to manage capital project costs and ensure sustainable financial reporting.
\
2. Support procurement with project cost evaluation and analysis.
\
3. Monitor planned investments and expenditure timelines, track budget variances, and flag any potential risks or deviations.
\
4. Assist in building maintenance, budget preparation and monitoring open commitments and actual spend.
\
5. Work with the general ledger team to maintain the fixed asset register, asset verification, and disposals.
\
6. Assist in the development and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures in line with relevant legislative and regulatory requirements.
\
7. Support internal and external audits, ensuring all compliance standards are met.
\
8. Provide support for investment-related committees, including agenda preparation, minutes, documentation, and follow-up actions.
\
9. Evaluate and support improvements to financial systems and processes, identifying opportunities for automation and increased efficiency.
\
10. Collaborate with cross-functional teams on system upgrades and future enhancements, including financial planning and reporting tools.
\
11. Recommend and support implementation of technology solutions that drive efficiencies and support strategic reporting needs.
\
12. Ensure timely completion of all monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reporting, reconciliations, and compliance submissions.
\
13. Work with the general ledger team on asset creation and related reporting, aligned with internal approvals and governance structures.
\
14. Support the development of compliance reports in line with environmental, sustainability, and regulatory frameworks.
\
15. Fully qualified accountant with a minimum of 3 years' post-qualification experience.
\
16. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with demonstrable experience in investment appraisal and financial evaluation.
\
17. Solid financial background in capital projects, including accounting, forecasting, and reporting responsibilities.
\
18. Excellent understanding of financial systems, organisational processes, and corporate governance.
\
19. Hands-on experience in project management and process improvement.
\
20. Proficient in financial systems (e.g., SAP) and data reporting tools.
\
21. Advanced Excel skills and high proficiency across Microsoft Office applications.
\
22. Working knowledge of legislative frameworks and standards relevant to capital investment and sustainability reporting.
\
