Scopely is looking for a Technical Team Lead to join our new unannounced project in Ireland, Spain, Portugal, or the UK on a hybrid/remote basis. We support visa sponsorship and relocation.
At Scopely, we are passionate about creating engaging games and connecting players worldwide. We are developing a bold, unannounced cross-platform Strategy/MMO game and seek dedicated game makers to join us early in this journey.
Responsibilities
* Lead server engineers within cross-functional teams to develop and maintain game servers.
* Improve development processes, workflows, and tools for better efficiency and quality.
* Understand server technology, middleware, and constraints across client, server, and infrastructure.
* Collaborate with Production and Product Owners to manage the development cycle and roadmap.
* Ensure best coding practices, technical documentation, and code reviews.
* Work with partners to determine and implement technical solutions.
* Identify technical risks and develop contingency plans.
* Coordinate with internal technology teams to optimize shared technologies.
* Facilitate communication within and across disciplines.
* Participate in recruitment, onboarding, and professional development of the team.
* Set clear objectives for team members and promote standard methodologies.
* Encourage sharing of technical knowledge and code.
Qualifications
* Experience in engineering leadership, preferably in the games industry.
* Proven experience in developing scalable back-end systems for MMO or high-traffic web applications.
* Proficiency with Python, web frameworks (Flask, Tornado, FastAPI), and async programming.
* Experience with Redis, RESTful APIs, and secure, reliable systems.
* Excellent people management and communication skills.
* Strong programming and engineering practices knowledge.
* Expertise in server and infrastructure technologies relevant to gaming, including game server architectures.
