There is an opportunity at Ballycotton Lifeboat Station for a Senior Station Technician to join the team for up to 12 months. This role is suitable for someone whose resilience, leadership, and management skills are as strong as their ability to keep Ballycotton's Lifeboat in perfect operational order.

Your role
The Senior Station Technician role is suited for individuals with an NVQ L4/SVQ L5 in engineering or equivalent experience in mechanical, electrical, or electronic engineering. If you do not meet the senior criteria, you may be considered for a Station Technician role.
Your main responsibilities will include ensuring the Trent class ALB and its equipment operate optimally, managing the Lifeboat Station, and training volunteer crew members to ensure preparedness during emergencies. You will work alongside mechanic volunteers and other staff and volunteers at the station.
Your Role Will Include
* Inspiring and motivating your team; leading seagoing exercises and shore-based training; identifying improvement opportunities; sharing your knowledge
* Engaging with the public about your station’s work
* Leading on Quality, Safety, Health, and Environment initiatives to foster a positive safety culture
* Managing daily station operations, including correspondence, maintenance records, and reporting
About You
You should be able to build effective relationships with volunteers, supporters, and staff, acting as an ambassador for the station and RNLI. To qualify, you need:
* Completed a mechanical apprenticeship or hold a degree in engineering, or equivalent professional qualifications and experience
* Leadership and management qualities with the ability to motivate teams
* Willingness to develop skills in other seagoing duties
* Knowledge of marine diesel operation, maintenance, and repair; an engineering mindset is essential
This is an emergency response role; candidates must live within reasonable distance of Ballycotton and be prepared to respond 24/7 via pager. Maritime mechanical skills are not mandatory if you have worked on vehicles or generators, as training will be provided.
