Position Description

A large part of our strategy depends on having safe and reliable renewable energy sources. The hydro generating stations on the Liffey and at Turlough Hill have provided clean, reliable, renewable electricity to the grid for the past 75 years.
The Liffey and Turlough Hill Stations are made up of 4 landmark renewable generating stations. Turlough Hill is a pumped storage station and the Liffey scheme comprises three hydro generation stations at Pollaphuca, Golden Falls and Leixlip dams. Pollaphuca reservoir also provides the vast majority of the water supply to the greater Dublin area. The other civil infrastructure in this portfolio includes tunnels, bridges, reservoirs, buildings, lands and associated civil structures. Monitoring and maintaining the dams and civil infrastructure to a safe standard is the role of the Civil Engineering team.
The Engineering Team Member will be reporting to the Civil Engineering Manager / Supervising Engineer and working as part of the Civil Engineering team based in Turlough Hill and the Liffey Stations. The Hydro Team Member will work autonomously, be flexible and be a self-starter, providing support across all functional areas within the stations including supervision and contractor management and will work to the level of their competence to carry out their duties. The position will also work with colleagues in ESB’s central ecology and engineering design departments.
This role is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the landmark Turlough Hill and Liffey schemes, and contribute to the performance of renewable energy assets that are key for ESB to maintain in order to meet our Net Zero Carbon by 2040 target.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborating with the Civil Engineering Manager / Supervising Engineer and the station team to deliver projects, services and completing reports on works carried out
Delivering and supporting of work across all areas of the station, including maintenance, operations, civil, technical and support functions.
Carrying out Civil inspections and completing reports on same
Fulfilling projects from design through to delivery and completion
Maintaining the Civil and Environmental departments project folders and SharePoint sites
Supporting the Civil Engineering Manager / Supervising Engineer to maintain all civil assets and lands in good working condition by managing maintenance and project delivery
Providing cover for the Civil Engineering Manager / Supervising Engineer during periods of leave
Building and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Experience And Qualifications
Essential
Minimum of 5 years relevant experience in civil, structural or environmental engineering, surveying or equivalent
The Candidate must have a qualification at NFQ Level 8 Civil Engineering Degree or equivalent qualification
Experience and capability successfully managing significant projects or aspects of significant projects
Attention to detail, good written and verbal communication skills, including report and specification writing
History of ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities
Full clean Irish driving licence and access to a vehicle
Desirable
Level 9 Engineering Degree or equivalent qualification
Chartered status in a recognised professional engineering institution
Experience in Dams / Dams Monitoring
Experience in the use of Eurocodes
Experience in delivering a variety of civil, structural and/or environmental projects
Experience in performing PSDP role on projects
Knowledge of Safe Systems of work, permitting and isolating processes
Preparation of design drawings and review of drawings prepared by others
Experience in safety/ quality/environmental and site management of contractors
Knowledge or experience of engineering/ document management systems
Location
The successful candidate will be based at Turlough Hill and Liffey Generating Stations and work across the Turlough Hill and Liffey Schemes, including Pollaphuca reservoir. The person will be expected to work in all locations as required and there can be flexibility in working arrangements to incorporate some hybrid working.

The successful candidate will report to the Civil Engineering Manager / Supervising Engineer, Turlough Hill and Liffey Stations.

Salary
€59,980 - €70,564 per annum
