The Chief Fire Officer’s primary function is to manage the County Council’s Fire Service, ensuring efficient and effective operations in accordance with the Fire Service Acts and related legislation. Responsibilities include the management and administration of the Fire and Emergency Service, strategic planning, major emergency planning, and coordination with other agencies.
Main Duties of the Job
Management of Health & Safety in the Fire Service regarding training, policy development and implementation.
Staff supervision and development, building effective teams, fostering motivation and maintaining sound employee relations.
Major Emergency Management: implementing and updating Major Emergency Plans and protocols, developing sub-plans, and coordinating planning and response with principal agencies and voluntary organisations.
Collaboration with other council departments in responding to emergency situations.
Compensation and Benefits
Salary Scale effective from 1st February 2026. Hours of attendance may be fixed but not less than 35 hours gross per week. Annual leave allowance is 30 days.
