This growth places us in a strong position within a rapidly evolving market, where we address the challenges of differing national grid structures through deep technical expertise and innovative solutions.Your roleAs Principal Engineer, you'll provide senior technical leadership in power system analysis and network planning. You'll ensure our methodologies, models, and outputs meet system operator standards, while improving delivery through clear ownership, coaching, and scalable ways of working.You'll be the senior technical anchor for our power system analysis work. You'll define what "good" looks like in our studies and outputs, guide the team on day-to-day technical delivery, and ensure quality consistency across projects.You'll work closely with the VP of Engineering by taking on day-to-day technical oversight and delivery coordination. You'll also represent Opoura in technical discussions with system operators, utilities, and other key stakeholders across Ireland, Great Britain, and comparable markets.Key responsibilitiesYour main responsibilities as our Principal Engineer will be:Lead power system studies, grid connection assessments, and network planning projects for developers and renewable asset owners using GridScreenOwn technical quality through review and approval of analyses, models, and reports, ensuring accuracy and clear recommendationsProvide hands-on technical leadership in the team, including prioritisation, coaching, and unblocking deliveryDrive workflow improvements across modelling, automation, and reporting to make delivery more scalable and repeatableEngage with system operators, utilities, and regulators, and partner with Commercial stakeholders to align on client needs and commitmentsTo be successful in this position, you:Deliver studies that stand up to system operator expectations and build customer trustKeep delivery predictable with clear priorities, steady execution, and reliable timelinesRaise team capability through practical mentoring and a shared quality barImprove modelling methods and processes over time, increasing scalability and automationSupport the VP of Engineering in scaling the function and hitting departmental targetsYour backgroundYou bring deep power systems expertise, and you're known for taking ownership of technical outcomes. You combine strong judgment with a pragmatic delivery mindset, and you communicate in a way that builds trust, internally and externally. You enjoy coaching others and improving how work gets done.5 to 10 years of post-graduate experience in power systems or electrical engineering, including transmission or distribution planning and grid connection studiesDegree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or similarStrong understanding of grid codes and connection processes in Ireland and/or Great BritainExperience leading and mentoring engineers, formally or informally, with real ownership of technical qualityConfident in stakeholder-facing settings, able to translate complex analysis into clear, practical recommendationsLiving in the Dublin area an eligible to work in IrelandFluent in EnglishAbout OpouraWe help energy companies unlock the potential of the energy transition with smart, scalable solutions.
