Clinical Nurse Manager II Medical OncologyLocation: Limerick Cancer CentreJob type: PermanentOverview of role:We are hiring a Clinical Nurse Manager to join our team on a permanent, full-time contractPrimary Duties and Responsibilities:Key Responsibilities:The post of CNM 2 has a pivotal role in service planning, co-ordinating, and managing activity and resources within the Oncology Day Unit.The CNM 2 will co-ordinate and lead in the implementation and provision of quality care.Analyses workloads and skill requirements to meet patient care needs.Assesses staff competencies and makes patient care assignments.Delegates appropriate tasks to personnel, consistent with legal and professional guidelines and departmental standards.Maintains clear communications with the CNM 3 regarding unit needs and/or incidents.Management and Organisation:Provide the necessary supervision, co-ordination and deployment of nursing and support staff to ensure the optimum delivery of care in the designated area through allocating work fairly and competently.Manage communication and facilitate team building.Provide staff leadership and motivation which is conducive to good working relations and work performance.Manage all resources efficiently and effectively, liaising with Operations Manager on service provisions and areas of needLead on practice development within the clinical area.Lead and implement change.Promote, facilitate and participate in the development of nursing policies and procedures. Monitor as appropriate and lead on proactive improvement.Contribute to the formulation, development and implementation of policies and procedures at area and hospital level.Maintain all necessary clinical and administrative records and reporting arrangements.Carry out the Engagement and Competency Process with all Nursing StaffAccreditation:Will familiarise themselves with policies, procedures and guidelines directly related to their clinical care and area.Assist in the review of policies, procedures and guidelines under the direction of the chapter lead/department manager.LeanLead, facilitate and participate in lean projects with all disciplines and departments of the hospital.Support and participate with others to problem solve and continuously improve through the use of the lean tools and techniquesAttend/participate on-site training as requiredKPI'sThe identification and development of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) which are congruent with the Hospital's service plan targets.The development of Action Plans to address KPI targets.Driving and promoting a Performance Management culture.In conjunction with line manager assist in the development of a Performance Management system for your profession.The management and delivery of KPIs as a routine and core business objective.PersonnelFollow uniform policy referenceGeneralManage patient care to ensure the highest professional standards using an evidence based, care planning approach.Provide a high level of professional and clinical leadership.Be responsible for the co-ordination, assessment, planning, delivery and review of service user care by all staff in designated area.Provide safe, comprehensive nursing care to service users within the guidelines laid out by NMBI. (Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland).Participate in teams / meetings / committees as appropriate, communicating and working in co-operation with other team members.Facilitate co-ordination, co-operation and liaison across healthcare teams.Collaborate with service users, family, carers and other staff in treatment / care.Assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care by personal involvement and supervising the activities of other qualified nurses.Ensure that the care delivered by team is based on standards, which have been formulated on evidence-based practice, and agreed, through hospital policy.Regularly evaluate and monitor patient care by using the hospitals quality systems to ensure that care is delivered.Develop and promote good relationships with patients, families and carers and make the ward environmentally welcoming and homely.Work as an effective member of the multidisciplinary team promoting good teamwork and excellent patient care.Evaluate and further develop the philosophy, objectives and goals of the department.To ensure that all staff are familiar with the use and care of all equipment, and that such equipment is maintained in good working condition.To ensure strict confidentiality of information regarding patients/residents is adhered to.Through the course of the working day or week there maybe a requirement to work in other areas of the hospital in line with patient requirements as requested by your line manager/deputy or nurse management.Staff must produce satisfactory documentary evidence of all training and experience claimed by them, if required to do so by the organisation.To respect the organisational values of the Hospital.Quality & Safety - Safe CultureQuality and Safety are rooted in the daily work of all individuals at UPMC. In addition records must never be left in such a manner that unauthorised persons can obtain access to them and must be kept in safe custody when no longer required.Qualifications & Experience:Skills Essential to the Post:Possess excellent communication skills.A proven track record in Nursing Management at a senior levelPreceptorship/teaching and assessing of students and junior staff is also essentialExperience in the implementation of service improvement and developmentExperience working with Electronic Health RecordsExcellent leadership skills with the ability to problem solve and use their initiative.The ability to negotiate and resolve difficult clinical, operational and interpersonal situations.Excellent interpersonal and team building skillsQualifications:EssentialPost Graduate or similar in OncologyHave completed a management courseDisplay evidence of continuing professional development.DesirableAdvanced Life Support qualification or commit to undertake sameExperience:Experience of 4 years of working in the Oncology setting with 2 years management experience requiredThe Post holder must hold the following to fulfil the requirements of this post:Be registered, or eligible for registration in the General Division of the live Register of Nurses kept by NMBI.Have a minimum of two years' experience within a management position, and ideally have three years' experience working within an Oncology departmentDemonstrate an awareness of HR policies and proceduresHave working knowledge of Microsoft packages is essential.Have experience in change management.Play an active role in the continuous improvement programme in the hospital using lean tools and methodologyJob Specific Competencies and Knowledge:Competent in IV/Oral Chemotherapy administrationCompetent in accessing, maintaining & care of CVAD devicesCompetent in IV Cannulation & VenepuncturePersonal Competencies:Professional Knowledge & ExperienceDemonstrates practitioner competence and professionalism in order to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the role.Practices in accordance with legislation affecting nursing practice.Displays evidence-based clinical knowledge in making decisions regarding client care.Demonstrates a commitment to continuing professional development.Demonstrates a willingness to develop IT skills relevant to the role.Demonstrates evidence of effective planning and organising skills.Demonstrates the ability to manage deadlines and effectively handle multiple tasks.Demonstrates an awareness of resource management and the importance of value for money.Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability in their approach to work, is open to change and new ways of workingDemonstrates excellent communication skills (written and verbal) so as to effectively carry out the duties and responsibilities of the role.Communicates in a clear, effective and sensitive manner, listening and ensuring that messages are clearly understood / tailors the method as appropriate.Anticipates and recognises the emotional reactions of others when delivering sensitive messages.Demonstrates the ability to influence others effectively.Is assertive as appropriateEqual Opportunity Statement and BenefitsUPMC is an equal opportunity employer.
