Offer Description

Applications are invited for a temporary post of a UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 2 within UCD School of Mechanical & Materials Engineering.

This full-time position is funded by a Targeted Research Project between Lia Eyecare (https://www.liaeyecare.com/ ) and I-Form, the Research Ireland Centre for Advanced Manufacturing (www.i-form.ie ). The Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 2 will join an experienced multidisciplinary team focused on the development, fabrication and evaluation of medical devices in close collaboration with Lia Eyecare and as part of the UCD Medical Device Design Group, the UCD Centre for Biomedical Engineering and the School of Mechanical & Materials Engineering.

Lia Eyecare is an Irish ophthalmology startup revolutionizing the treatment of dry and sore eyes through novel wearable technology. It spun out of University College Dublin (UCD) in 2023 via the BioInnovate Ireland program. Lia technology is first targeting a critical and huge unmet need: nighttime dry and sore eye symptoms caused by poor-quality tear film. Lia has developed patent pending innovative non-invasive, wearables that provide proven relief to patients without disrupting rest or vision. Lia Eyecare's first product, Nightleaf, offers a reusable, drug-free solution built for comfort, compliance, and sustainability.

The I-Form Centre was established by Research Ireland in Ireland in late 2017, with a mission to shape the future of manufacturing through high-impact research into the application of digital technologies to materials processing, thus increasing the competitiveness of Irish industry. I-Form operates in close collaboration with a network of companies, as well as leading manufacturing research centres from around the globe and over the course of its first phase has recruited a multi-disciplinary team of over 120 PhD and Post-Doctoral researchers. The Centre is hosted in University College Dublin with partners and researchers based in Dublin City University, Trinity College Dublin, Maynooth University, University of Galway, Atlantic Technological University, South East Technological University, University of Limerick and National Institute for Bioprocessing Research and Training (NIBRT).
