Based in the GPO building and working across Dublin and north-eastern regions, the Occupational Health Advisor provides a comprehensive Occupational Health Service to An Post and its employees.
The regional boundaries may change over time and cover is provided at all times by the team.
This role has a dual reporting line i.e.
to the Head of HR Operations for all matters other than clinical where reporting is to the Chief Medical Officer/Occupational Health Physician.
Responsibilities The principal responsibilities associated with the role include, but are not limited to the following: Health Assessments: Conduct initial and follow-up assessments to evaluate employees health status, work capacity, and any underlying medical conditions that may impact job performance.
Sickness Absence Management: Monitor and manage employee sickness absences, providing support and coordinating return-to-work plans, including phased returns or modified duties where appropriate.
Referral Management: Coordinate referrals to the Occupational Health Physician, medical specialists, or other healthcare providers when clinically indicated.
Case Documentation: Maintain accurate, detailed, and confidential records of health assessments, communications, referrals, treatment plans, and progress updates.
Risk Assessments: Identify potential workplace risks related to employee health and provide recommendations to mitigate these risks.
Workplace Adjustments:Advise managers on appropriate workplace accommodations, such as ergonomic modifications, flexible work arrangements, or temporary duty adjustments.
Health Education and Support: Provide guidance and education to employees on managing health conditions, promoting wellbeing, and reducing health-related risks.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all case management processes comply with relevant health and safety legislation, company policies, and legal obligations.
Return-to-Work Coordination: Develop and manage individual return-to-work plans for employees recovering from illness or injury, ensuring a smooth reintegration into the workplace.
Communication and Liaison: Act as a key liaison between employees, management, HR, healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders to facilitate clear communication and effective case management.
Data Protection (GDPR): Always ensure strict adherence to data protection laws and GDPR requirements.
Knowledge, Experience and Skills Candidates must hold a relevant nursing qualification with at least five years experience in an Occupational Health role, ideally within a complex or unionised organisation.
The successful candidate will have proven experience in managing sickness absence cases, supporting return-to-work plans, and promoting workplace health and wellbeing.
A strong understanding of employment legislation, health and safety regulations, and GDPR requirements is essential, as is the ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
The role requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, sound clinical judgement, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with electronic health record systems is also required.
Attendance Requirements Flexibility in times of attendance, willingness to travel, a current clean driving licence and use of a car are all essential requirements for this position.
