Security Monitoring & Detection Engineer Dublin Permanent | €50,000 - €60,000 DOE A leading technology-driven organisation is seeking a Security Monitoring & Detection Engineer to strengthen its operational security capabilities. This role suits someone with hands-on experience in security operations who wants to move deeper into building detections, improving signal quality, and supporting proactive threat identification across modern cloud and endpoint platforms. About the Role In this position, you will help shape and maintain the organisation's detection coverage by creating and improving detection rules, reviewing alerts, and collaborating closely with security teams to ensure the environment remains resilient against emerging threats. You'll also contribute to automation tasks and help refine processes as part of a growing security engineering function. Responsibilities Create and tune detection rules across SIEM/EDR platforms to identify suspicious activity. * Review alerts and refine logic to reduce noise while improving threat visibility. * Support investigations by analysing events, identifying indicators, and recommending enhancements. * Work with threat intelligence and IR teams to incorporate new behaviours and techniques. * Assist in developing automation workflows and scripting small improvements. * Document detection logic and maintain accurate operational procedures. * Participate in testing and validation of new detection use cases. Required Experience 3-5 years in cybersecurity operations, security monitoring, or threat analysis. * Familiarity with SIEM or EDR tooling (any major platform considered). * Basic scripting or automation experience (PowerShell, Python, or similar). * Understanding of attacker behaviours and frameworks such as MITRE ATT&CK. * Strong analytical thinking, pattern recognition, and communication skills. Advantageous Experience Exposure to threat hunting or IR activities. * Security certifications (Security+, SC-200, CCFA, etc.). * Experience contributing to detection automation or detection-as-code efforts.
