Job ID: ******* | Amazon Development Centre Ireland Limited
Do you like to use network and Unix systems engineering to deliver simple, sustainable and repeatable solutions?
Would you like to play a key role in driving the stability and sustainability of next-generation IP networks?
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure.
In other words, we're the people who keep the cloud running.
We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on.
We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain—and we're looking for talented people who want to help.
You'll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles.
You'll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers.
And you'll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.
Overview
Amazon.com is looking for best-in-class Network Engineers to drive the deployment, scaling and automation of one of the world's largest and complex networks: the AWS Direct Connect service.
Our goal is to become "The Infrastructure Platform" to the world.
Our customers demand the highest quality and reliability for their services and challenge us to be better, faster, and cheaper every day.
We are expanding at a tremendous rate; it is our responsibility to maintain quality and reliability while developing innovative ways to automate the scaling of our network.
Key Job Responsibilities
Support and maintain next-generation networks.
Deliver simple, sustainable and repeatable solutions and processes.
Work closely with our broader Network Engineering & Deployment teams to ensure operational readiness for new deployments.
Drive standards across the network and ensure that we are fully compliant with those standards and policies.
Participate and drive impact mitigation during large-scale events utilizing an established Event Management process.
Drive event deep dives for large-scale events, deliver high-quality documentation for the events and drive corrective actions to completion.
Improve detection mechanisms by designing and implementing new alerts.
Create and review documentation and processes regarding recurring issues, new standard operating procedures, knowledge transfer material, etc.
Troubleshoot interconnectivity issues, including troubleshooting of network device configuration and low-level application interaction.
Identify and drive opportunities for repeatable tasks through creation and maintenance of scripts and tools.
A day in the life: We work with internal partners to develop and implement the next-gen platforms along with the tooling ecosystems to support these platforms, driving efficiency and scalability through the automation of builds, configuration deployment, and the scaling of capacity.
As our network is one of the largest in the world, there is no blueprint at our scale allowing our engineers to develop solutions to the complex challenges that we face daily.
We encourage durable solutions that look around corners while taking into consideration our customer needs from a cost, performance, and reliability perspective.
Our team develops tooling that provides the required visibility and control of traffic across the network, while prioritizing the automatic mitigation of events to minimize impact on our customers during events.
Work in a 24x7 team on-call rotation, with ability to drive into the workplace for critical events/needs.
Manage customers during problem resolution and operating efficiently under pressure.
Sit at the computer during scheduled work hours with appropriate breaks while maintaining a high level of alertness and attention to detail.
Travel to data center/network sites and Amazon/customer offices as needed.
