OverviewMachineLab designs and manufactures high-performance automation systems and precision-engineered components for the pharmaceutical and life sciences sectors.We are seeking a skilled Toolmaker / CNC Machinist to join our Wexford-based manufacturing team.This role offers full involvement in the design, manufacture, and assembly of bespoke components and mechanisms that power our automation systems.You will work with advanced equipment including 5-axis Quaser and Haas machining centres, Nakamura-Tome lathes, and wire EDM systems, using Fusion 360 CAD/CAM for programming and toolpath generation.This is a hands-on, precision role with strong career progression potential to Workshop Supervisor or Manufacturing Manager, as MachineLab expands its internal production capabilities.Key ResponsibilitiesMachining & ProgrammingCreate and manage Fusion 360 CAD/CAM toolpaths for milling, turning, and EDM operations.Set up and operate 5-axis CNC machining centres (Quaser, Haas) and Nakamura CNC lathes.Program and operate Wire EDM machines for precision tooling and component finishing.Manufacture complex components to tight tolerances with excellent surface finishes.Optimise feeds, speeds, and tooling strategies for maximum efficiency and accuracy.Toolmaking & FabricationProduce jigs, fixtures, and custom tooling to support MachineLab's automation builds.Machine one-off and prototype parts for special-purpose equipment.Perform precision fitting, polishing, and assembly of machined components.Interpret detailed 2D drawings and 3D models accurately.Work directly with design engineers to improve manufacturability and function.Assembly & Build SupportParticipate in machine assembly and mechanical integration.Fit, align, and verify components as part of full automation build processes.Support cross-functional teams during equipment debug and testing.Contribute to design-for-manufacture and assembly feedback loops.Workshop Management & Continuous ImprovementMaintain a clean, efficient, and well-organised workshop environment.Manage consumables, tooling, and raw material stock levels.Track job progress and support scheduling and planning activities.Identify and implement process improvements in machining and workflow.Support standardisation of setups, tooling systems, and CAM templates.Leadership & ProgressionThis role is structured to support progression into Workshop Supervisor or Manufacturing Manager positions as MachineLab scales.Future responsibilities may include:Supervising a small team of machinists and apprentices.Overseeing daily machining schedules and quality control.Driving continuous improvement in precision manufacturing.Supporting management with production planning and resource allocation.MachineLab promotes from within — providing structured growth paths for talented, hands-on engineers who want to take on technical and leadership responsibility.Essential RequirementsTime-served Toolmaker / CNC Machinist or equivalent qualification.Skilled in Fusion 360 CAD/CAM for 3-axis and 5-axis programming.Experience operating 5-axis Quaser and/or Haas machining centres.Competent in multi-axis CNC turning (Nakamura or equivalent).Experience with Wire EDM setup and operation.Strong knowledge of GD&T, tolerances, and precision measurement.Excellent mechanical aptitude, problem-solving ability, and attention to detail.Capable of working independently and taking ownership of quality and output.Desired RequirementsBackground in automation, medical device, or precision engineering industries.Experience in mechanical fitting, assembly, and test support.Familiarity with CMM inspection and advanced metrology tools.Understanding of tooling design, workholding, and fixture development.Experience in low-volume, high-precision manufacturing environments.Job Type: Full-timeBenefits:Company eventsFlexitimeOn-site parkingWork Location: In person
