Technical Lead - Commerce Hub
What does a successful Technical Lead Payment Processing do?
A successful Technical Lead at Fiserv drives modernization that lets our clients focus on life, not financial plumbing. You lead engineering for a global payments platform, applying technical judgment and collaborative leadership to deliver secure, high‑performing solutions. You model our Partners in Possibility mindset by inspiring teams to adopt modern practices and deliver measurable business value.
What you will do:
* Own a major modernisation stream on a global payment platform focused on transitioning to microservices and event-driven architectures exceeding 5,000 transactions per second and tens of millions of transactions per day.
* Design, build, and deliver high-quality, scalable software applications that strengthen Fiserv payment processing capabilities.
* Collaborate across product, architecture, operations, and compliance teams to translate business needs into technical outcomes.
* Leverage and extend our core technology stack (Java, AWS, Kafka, Kubernetes) to build secure, reliable, and performant solutions.
* Champion engineering excellence through code reviews, automated testing, and driving improvements in CI/CD pipelines.
* Mentor and uplift the team, sharing expertise and guiding engineers to adopt modern development practices.
* Act as a change agent to evolve technology, processes, and team mindset toward modern software engineering principles.
* Drive initiatives from concept to production, balancing strategic modernization with near-term delivery needs.
What you will need to have:
* Demonstrated leadership delivering complex, distributed systems and modernization programs in production environments.
* Strong Java expertise, including modern frameworks, performance tuning, and clean, testable design.
* Hands-on AWS experience and cloud-native application design patterns.
* Expertise in Kafka or comparable event streaming platforms and event-driven architecture principles.
* Kubernetes and container orchestration experience, combined with CI/CD and DevOps practices that enable reliable, rapid delivery.
What would be great to have:
* Background in payments or financial services with awareness of performance, security, and compliance (e.g., PCI) requirements.
* Experience modernizing legacy, mission-critical systems to microservices and event-driven patterns.
* Proven success improving throughput and resilience for high‑volume systems.
* Strong observability and SRE practices (monitoring, tracing, capacity planning).
* Experience with distributed transactions, CDC, or eventual-consistency design patterns.
* History of introducing tools or practices that measurably improved team delivery and product quality.
