Job Title:Database Administrator (Azure Cloud)Location:North County DublinJob Type:Contract (3 Months, with option to extend)Work Type:Hybrid (Minimum 2 days onsite)Role Type:TechnicalOverview of RoleOur client requires a Cloud Database Administrator (DBA) who will provide administrative services for cloud-native databases deployed in the Azure environment. The role involves collaboration with cross-functional teams such as Cloud Engineering, DevOps, Security, and Analytics to ensure database reliability, performance, security, and compliance. Ideally 3-5 years of experience as Cloud DBA required.Role & Responsibilities:Implement and automate database backup processes with regular reporting to ensure backups are dependable and restorable.Develop, document, and test disaster recovery plans with clear recovery objectives and failover strategies.Set up monitoring dashboards and alerting systems for database health, usage, and error monitoring.Conduct regular database health checks on performance, storage, backups, and security, providing summary reports and recommendations.Analyse and optimise slow-running queries or SQL code, delivering performance improvement reports.Perform security and compliance audits including database access and encryption, maintaining a security checklist and implementing necessary changes.Provision and scale database resources as needed, documenting changes and making scaling recommendations.Support DevOps and CI/CD processes by enabling automated database deployment and schema updates, providing tested migration and rollback scripts.Maintain up-to-date documentation and deliver knowledge transfer and training sessions for internal teams.Continuously review processes and technologies to propose improvements and cost-saving measures.Skills, Qualifications & ExperienceProven experience as a Database Administrator or Database Developer in an Azure cloud environment.Expertise in SQL and experience managing Azure SQL databases or similar databases like MySQL, PostgreSQL, Cosmos DB, or NoSQL.Hands-on experience with cloud-native database services and SQL code optimisation.Solid knowledge of Azure Cloud Infrastructure and services.Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code (IaC) tools such as Terraform.Experience working with Agile, DevOps methodologies, and CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps, Jira, GitHub Actions).Strong critical thinking skills with diligence, excellent communication, and teamwork abilities.Knowledge of monitoring, observability tools, and security best practices.Experience:Ideally 3-5 years of experience as Cloud DBA required.Experience delivering database administrative services in Azure cloud environments.Skilled in backup/disaster recovery implementation, performance tuning, and capacity management.Proven collaboration with DevOps, Security, and development teams in Agile settings.Education & Certifications:Relevant degree or equivalent experience in IT, Computer Science, or related fields.Certifications in Azure, database administration, or cloud technologies preferred.Visa:Irish/EU Citizen or Stamp 4 Visa holder.About UsAs Ireland's largest IT Solutions Provider with a growing global footprint, Ergo offers deep expertise across managed IT & hardware services, cloud, applications & software services, IT resourcing, and modern work solutions.
