Electrician – RTé Electrical Services (Property Engineering)
RTé is Ireland's national public service media organisation.
Our Property Engineering function supports a diverse estate of corporate, production, technical, and broadcast facilities, including live operational environments where electrical reliability, compliance, and resilience are essential to continuity of service.
We are seeking a qualified Electrician to join RTé's in-house Electrical Services Team.
This is an opportunity to work within a technically strong team supporting a complex electrical estate that includes live studios, technical areas, plant, essential services, and broadcast-support infrastructure.
The role offers the chance to build experience in a structured environment with exposure to specialist systems, compliance frameworks, and critical operations.
This position will suit a capable and safety-focused electrician who wants to develop their career in a technically advanced setting.
While experience in every specialist area is not expected from the outset, full training and support will be provided to help the successful candidate develop in the role.
Meet the Team
The Electrical Services Team provides in-house electrical maintenance, inspection, fault response, and technical support across RTé's broadcast, production, technical, and corporate facilities.
The team operates within a structured engineering, safety, and compliance framework to support the safe and reliable operation of RTé's LV electrical infrastructure in live and operationally sensitive environments.
The team's work includes planned preventative maintenance, reactive fault response, inspection and testing, outage coordination, minor works, and support for system upgrades across a varied estate.
This includes technical and broadcast-support environments where resilience, safe isolation, compliance, and quality of delivery are critical.
You will join an experienced in-house team that works closely with supervisors, engineering managers, operations personnel, and approved specialist contractors to maintain standards across a technically demanding estate.
About the role
Reporting to the Electrical Supervisor, you will operate as part of RTé's in-house Electrical Services Team, delivering electrical maintenance, inspection, and fault response across live broadcast, technical, and operational environments.
You will work across RTé's LV electrical systems and associated services, supporting safe operation, statutory compliance, and service continuity in facilities where loss of electrical systems can directly impact operations.
This role operates on a shift-based roster working a seven-days-in-fourteen pattern.
Attendance may be required across any day of the week in line with operational requirements.
Shift hours vary in accordance with the roster, and applicable shift-related payments apply in addition to the basic salary.
This role offers hands-on involvement in a broad range of electrical activities across a technically diverse estate, with opportunities to build experience in structured maintenance environments, resilience-focused operations, and specialist electrical systems.
Key responsibilities
Carry out planned preventative maintenance, reactive works, and periodic inspections across RTé's LV electrical infrastructure, including office, production, technical, and broadcast-support environments
Support the safe operation, resilience, and compliance of electrical systems serving operationally critical facilities, including essential power distribution, UPS-supported circuits, generator-backed supplies, and monitored electrical systems
Undertake inspection, testing, fault finding, and verification activities in line with statutory requirements, ET101 / I.S. ***** Wiring Rules, Safe Electric obligations, and RTé electrical standards
Execute work within strict electrical safety and governance frameworks, including permit-to-work systems, isolations, lock-out arrangements, control of hazardous energies, and change management within live environments
Support planned outages, resilience testing, minor upgrades, and system improvement works, ensuring activities are coordinated to minimise operational risk
Identify defects, non-conformances, and emerging risks during maintenance and inspection activities, escalating findings appropriately through the supervisory structure
Maintain accurate technical records, inspection reports, and asset information, contributing to compliance assurance and continuous improvement across the electrical estate
Liaise effectively with Engineering Managers, Broadcast Operations, internal stakeholders, and approved specialist contractors to ensure works are delivered safely, compliantly, and efficiently
