Job Title: Transport Planner
Reports To: Planning Manager
Job Summary: The Transport Planner is responsible for overseeing the next day routing operations and planning operation within the planning team to ensure efficient and timely collections and deliveries.
This role involves planning and optimising delivery routes, managing real-time fleet performance, and ensuring all operational challenges are addressed promptly to minimise delays.
The Transport Planner communicates effectively, customer support and depots to ensure clarity on schedules and routes, ensures accurate delivery times for customers, and manages necessary documentation.
Ensure that collections and deliveries are completed in the most efficient manner possible.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and optimise delivery routes to minimise delays
Oversee real-time monitoring of fleet performance, tracking delays or issues as they arise, and taking action to resolve any problems promptly.
Manage the scheduling of collection and delivery dates, ensuring that deadlines are met, and operational challenges are addressed promptly.
Advise customer support on any issues surrounding deliveries, providing timely information and ensuring issues are resolved quickly to avoid delays.
Ensure incorrect freight labels are reprinted and replaced with the correct labels for shipments.
Ensure timely and accurate deliveries to customer locations, providing updates on expected delivery times and addressing any issues or delays proactively.
Oversee responsibilities related to the management and accuracy of manifests, ensuring all documentation is up-to-date and compliant.
Perform additional duties as assigned, supporting the transport team in various operational activities
Qualifications & Experience:
Proven experience in a transport or logistics role, with a focus on routing and real-time monitoring.
Strong knowledge of transportation regulations and compliance standards (e.g., driver working hours, vehicle inspections, safety laws).
Familiarity with routing software, fleet management tools, and real-time tracking systems.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with drivers, customer support, depots, subcontractors, and management.
Strong problem-solving abilities, with the capability to make quick decisions and resolve operational issues efficiently.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and transport management software desirable but not essential.
