Overview
Machine Vision System Engineer | J&J MedTech | Vision | Limerick – based in Limerick, Ireland. Johnson & Johnson MedTech is seeking a Machine Vision System Engineer to develop, validate, and deploy cutting‑edge vision inspection systems for contact lens manufacturing and R&D. This role involves collaborating across multifunctional teams and external partners to create in‑line inspection solutions.
What to Expect
* Design, develop, and integrate machine vision solutions into automated manufacturing processes for defect detection and quality assurance.
* Collaborate with automation engineers and external vendors to ensure seamless system integration.
* Lead the validation and qualification of vision systems and algorithms as part of NPI activities, including system characterization and performance benchmarking.
* Conduct comprehensive system testing and troubleshooting to achieve right‑first‑time implementation.
* Innovate vision applications to support process development and facilitate the launch of new products.
* Provide training, technical support, and documentation to ensure flawless deployment and ongoing system performance in manufacturing environments.
* Drive continuous improvement initiatives and explore future trends in machine and computer vision, Industry 4.0, and automation technologies.
* Manage project timelines, communicate progress effectively to stakeholders, and deliver solutions aligned with business goals.
Who You Are
* Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical, mechatronics, electronic engineering, or a related discipline.
* Minimum 4 years in a machine vision or automation role, preferably within medical device, pharma, or regulated industries (FDA compliant environments advantageous).
* Proficiency with industrial vision platforms such as Cognex, Keyence, MVTec, or equivalent.
* Strong background in vision hardware selection, including optics, cameras, lighting, and system integration.
* Solid understanding of industrial communication protocols (EtherNet/IP, Profibus, Profinet, etc.).
* Experience with vision software development and implementation of AI/ML tools using MATLAB, VIDI, or similar.
* Knowledge of PLC programming (Allen-Bradley, Siemens) and robotic integration.
* Programming skills in Python, C++, or Java are advantageous.
* Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and statistical skills.
* Strong collaboration and communication abilities to work effectively with cross‑functional teams and external partners.
* Proven track record of designing, validating, and deploying industrial vision systems.
* Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
* Fluent in English (verbal & written).
* Willingness to travel internationally (≤10%).
