Job Summary
The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a toxicology centre. This will involve planning, directing and managing the work of the team to meet user needs and objectives.
Main Responsibilities:
* Plan, direct and oversee daily work of the team
* Work closely with the Clinical Director to plan and maintain work systems, procedures and policies for optimal performance of the team
* Clinical responsibilities include answering enquiries about poisoning, referring cases to medical or laboratory staff, keeping records, being familiar with antidotes and locations where they are held, carrying out literature searches and research, participating in continuing professional development, presenting at conferences, writing case reports and research papers, and participating in training programmes
* Managerial responsibilities include exercising personal responsibility, maintaining confidentiality, accomplishing department objectives by managing staff and planning activities, empowering employees, delegating responsibility, developing personal growth opportunities, communicating transparently, overseeing training and evaluation of new staff, managing leave entitlements, ensuring quality service, and adapting to ongoing changes in the healthcare environment
Requirements:
* An honours degree in a scientific or medical subject relevant to toxicology or a nursing qualification
* A Diploma in Medical Toxicology from the University of Cardiff or a relevant post-graduate qualification
* At least 5 years full-time experience working as a Poisons Information Officer/Specialist
* Commitment to achieve a management qualification if not already obtained
* Evidence of Continuous Professional Development
* Comprehensive practical knowledge of web browsers and Microsoft Office applications
* Ability to produce high-quality written materials in English
* Good communication and interpersonal skills
* Ability to communicate complex information to healthcare professionals and the public
* Excellent listening, communication, negotiation and influencing skills to manage scientific and administrative staff
