What We Need Help With
We’re looking for a highly organised Product Development Technologist to join our team. The role will involve the concept generation and development of new and existing frozen ready-to-bake product lines from mainstream, popular varieties to innovative new concepts, for branded and customer brand retail, instore bakery and food service.
Responsibilities
* Supplier engagement/sourcing of raw materials, ensure all materials meet internal and customer standards, assessing technical suitability
* Recipe development and reformulation, sample preparation, to brief
* Work closely with procurement, production, commercial, and technical teams to facilitate successful product launches
* Customer engagement, presentations and sample submissions, internal and external
* Sensory analysis to optimize taste, texture, appearance
* Internal and external baking validations
* Shelf-life analysis
* Plant trials - transfer lab-scale recipes to full-scale manufacturing, troubleshooting technical challenges and ensuring consistency
* Report writing, preparation and maintenance of detailed records of formulations, trials, and product specifications
* Support to production
* Food expert support to commercial and to customers
* Be a real “foodie”, passionate about food, ingredients and emerging trends
* Manage multiple projects and deadlines
* Have practical experience in food product development and in the bakery sector
* Experience in an industrial scale bakery environment, particularly laminated pastry products (distinct advantage)
* Hold a Degree or Diploma in Bakery, Culinary Arts, Food Technology, Food Science or related subject
* Experience engaging with retailers and with instore bakery ovens
* Ability to interpret consumer trends and translate them into successful products
* Adaptability and willingness to learn new technologies and methods
* Commercial awareness and customer focus
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Qualifications
* Degree or Diploma in Bakery, Culinary Arts, Food Technology, Food Health/Food Science or related subject
* Experience in food product development, with bakery sector interest
* Experience in an industrial scale bakery environment is advantageous
