We have an excellent opportunity for an experienced payroll professional in our growing and supportive organisation, with the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to payroll operations and strategy. This role will be based in our office in Convoy, Co. Donegal.
The Assistant Payroll Manager will support the Payroll Manager in the effective operation and administration of the payroll function across the organisation. This role plays a key part in ensuring timely, accurate, and compliant payroll processing for all staff and contributes to system improvements, team supervision, and the ongoing integration of a centralised payroll structure.
The role also involves supporting, guiding and training payroll team members both centrally and across individual sites.
Responsibilities
* Assist in the end-to-end payroll processing for multiple locations
* Verify and reconcile payroll data including timesheets, salary changes, leave, benefit deductions and statutory payments
* Ensure accurate processing of starters, leavers and changes to employee records
* Help maintain secure and up-to-date payroll files in compliance with data protection and statutory regulations
* Assist with monthly, quarterly and annual payroll reporting to Finance and HR departments
* Support KPI tracking and continuous performance monitoring of the payroll function
* Keep informed of changes in payroll legislation, tax, PRSI, USC, pension, and BIK regulations
* Assist in preparing for and responding to internal and external audits
* Ensure payroll activities comply with company policies and legal obligations
* Contribute to the implementation and maintenance of strong internal controls and segregation of duties
* Support the centralisation and streamlining of payroll processes across all entities
* Contribute to the creation and ongoing maintenance of SOPs, internal templates, and checklists
* Participate in payroll projects, including system upgrades, acquisitions, and integrations
* Assist in troubleshooting issues and improving the effectiveness of payroll systems and workflows
* Supervise and support site-based and central payroll staff in the day-to-day execution of their duties
* Provide guidance, training, and quality control oversight to team members
* Act as a key point of contact for escalated payroll queries
* Deputise for the Payroll Manager during absences, including approvals and reporting responsibilities
Education & Experience
* IPASS qualification required (or currently undertaking)
* Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a payroll supervisory or team lead role
* 3+ years’ total experience in payroll, ideally in a multi-site or high-volume environment
* Experience using Quantum Payroll System an advantage
* Knowledge of Timepoint or similar time and attendance systems desirable
* Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets
* Proven knowledge of Irish payroll regulations, tax law, and statutory reporting
* Excellent attention to detail and data accuracy
* Strong supervisory and people management skills
* Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive data with integrity
* Strong organisational and time management skills with ability to meet strict deadlines
* Good communicator with clear and professional interpersonal skills
* Ability to work collaboratively as part of a wider team and independently as required
* Problem-solver with a proactive, can-do attitude
