Role Profile


Location: Rosderra Irish Meats Edenderry


Team: Pig Procurement Department

Based at the Edenderry plant this role, this new position is part of a small team who manage the procurement of pigs and sows for the Rosderra Irish Meats business. Working with the (pig) procurement manager, the role will have has responsibility for the identification, sourcing and securing of Sows for the Rosderra processing operation, through the development of ongoing relationship with suppliers and individual farmers.

Position: Livestock/ Sow Procurement Officer

Location: Rosderra Irish Meats Edenderry

Reports to: Pig Procurement manager

Team: Pig Procurement Department

Based at the Edenderry plant this role, this new position is part of a small team who manage the procurement of pigs and sows for the Rosderra Irish Meats business. Working with the (pig) procurement manager, the role will have has responsibility for the identification, sourcing and securing of Sows for the Rosderra processing operation, through the development of ongoing relationship with suppliers and individual farmers.

This role will engage with pig farmers to ensure the purchase and smooth delivery of SOWS to the processing operation. The role will involve building professional relationship with many individuals. The role will be working in a live logistic environment, requiring reaction to address issues and amend the plan to match day to day operations changes, as well as developing long term relationship to secure ongoing supply.

The role requires someone who can plan and is extremely organised, good with figures and able to close deals. They also need to develop and maintain relationships, understand the market and have foresight with the ability to develop and implement plan to meet target based requirements which are price dependent.

The nature of the role requires good verbal communication skills including clear and concise communication, the ability to negotiate and close deals.

Main Responsibilities


* Source and purchase Sows for the processing operations.
* Conclude purchase agreements
* Maintain and build relationships with suppliers to make Rosderra the preferred and sole choice for the disposal and sale of SOWS.
* Market analysis and data maintenance; maintain a data base of the current and projected Sows herd size, suppliers, locations and relationships
* Maintain a clear understanding of the items which impact purchase price.
* Provide data to the company and board as required.
* Develop a relationship with the sales team to ensure customer demand and requirements are understood and can be met.
* Develop customer propositions.
* Close sales.
* Project volume and potential for the Sows business for the island of Ireland
* Report on the quality and quantity elements of each individual supplier by interacting with the operation and quality on the product standard.
* Manage the scheduling of sows to ensure it is carried out in a cost-effective manner yet complying with the necessary welfare criteria.
* Monitor the weight and trends among the sow population
* Make recommendations to ensure an efficient running of this area of the business.
* Develop propositions to support purchasing capabilities and suppliers satisfaction
* Build and Maintain relationship with relevant suppliers and stakeholders.
* Support the booking officer and pig procurement manager in their duties.
* Learn the pricing models, local and international, using data to support.
