Sligo County Council is the Authority responsible for Local Government in County Sligo. The corporate headquarters are located at County Hall, Riverside, Sligo, and there are three Municipal Districts [Borough District of Sligo (Sligo/Strandhill), Municipal District of Sligo (Sligo/Drumcliff) and Municipal District of Ballymote-Tubbercurry]. Sligo County Council has 18 elected members and approximately 480 staff. The Chief Executive of Sligo County Council is Mr. Martin Lydon and the Cathaoirleach is Cllr. Dónal Gilroy.
Sligo County Council has responsibility for the delivery of a wide range of public services in the area with a focus on making the County, our towns and countryside attractive places to live, work and invest. The Council provides a diverse range of services across a large geographic area. Key services areas include Planning, Local Enterprise Office, Community and Economic Development, Transportation, Motor Taxation, Environment, Water, Emergency Services along with Housing, Libraries and the Arts. These operations are supported by internal services which include ICT, Corporate, Finance and Human Resource functions.
About the Role:
The Senior Executive Engineer will be required to lead a team or teams and to provide technical and managerial support across all local authority service areas and to liaise with external agencies and support the democratic process. They will be required to report to their appropriate line manager, assist the management team as may be required and deal with the elected members in respect of their role in the County and to attend the full Council and Municipal District meetings when required. They may also be required to deputise for the Senior Engineer.
They will be responsible for the efficient management of staff and the work programme of the directorates / department and function to which they are assigned. Managers at this level work within defined parameters relevant to the position, in accordance with the Local 5 Authority’s vision and objectives and the role is interchangeable across directorates. The Senior Executive Engineer will be required to work closely with elected Councillors to deliver the full range of services and implement local policy decisions.
About You:
Candidates shall on the latest date for receipt of completed applications:
* (a)(i) hold an honours bachelor's degree (level 8 on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ)) in Engineering accredited at CEng or CEng with FL level by Engineers Ireland*;
* (a)(ii) hold an ordinary bachelor's degree (level 7 on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ)) in Engineering AND a post-graduate masters degree (level 9 on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ)) in Engineering;
* (a)(iii) hold a masters degree (level 9 on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ)) in Engineering attained after completing an integrated masters level programme of at least 4 years duration and which is accredited at CEng level by Engineers Ireland or an equivalent accreditation body internationally;
* (a)(iv) have achieved the registered professional title of Chartered Engineer and be registered on the Register of Chartered Engineers of Engineers Ireland or of a professional institute of another country and recognised by Engineers Ireland as of equivalent status.
* (b) have at least seven years satisfactory relevant experience of engineering work;
* (c) possess a high standard of technical training and experience;
* (d) possess a high standard of administrative and management experience;
* (e) have a satisfactory knowledge of public service organisation or the ability to acquire such knowledge.
