Offer Description
Applications are invited for a temporary post of a UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 within UCD School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering.
We seek a highly motivated researcher to join the RTForm project, focusing on developing Robot Toolkits for deformable component manufacturing. The project involves creating multi-platform, multi-user Augmented Reality (AR) experiences to improve operator performance during complex assembly involving deformable materials. The successful candidate will design, develop, and integrate AR-based assistance tools, including head-mounted displays, projection systems, and interactive screens, providing procedural guidance, real-time visualization, and immersive training tailored to soft or variable-geometry components.
A core responsibility is to bridge robotic automation and human-centered AR interfaces, facilitating collaboration between humans and robotic systems, including vision systems and AI algorithms for tracking, deformation estimation, quality assurance, and process optimization. The candidate will also develop intelligent feedback mechanisms to enhance decision-making in dynamic manufacturing environments, focusing on robustness, error reduction, and scalability for deformable component assembly.
Salary: €45,847 - €48,412 per annum. Appointment will depend on qualifications and experience.
Closing date: 12:00 noon (Irish time), 9th June 2025.
Applications must be submitted by the deadline. Late applications will not be accepted. UCD does not work with recruitment agencies.
This PD1 position is for early-stage researchers, just after PhD or entering a new area. If you have completed or will soon complete your PD1 or have over 4 years of postdoctoral experience, consider applying for PD2 positions instead.
