The role
We are currently recruiting for an Assistant Re-Waxer to join our Partner Store on Duke Street on a full-time basis. As Assistant Re-Waxer, you will be responsible for restoring, treating, and finishing cotton jackets to a high standard of quality and presentation. Working alongside the main Re-Waxer, the role focuses on maintaining the performance, appearance and durability of Barbour's heritage wax jackets, as well as ensuring an exceptional level of personal, one-to-one customer service.The position involves preparing jackets for treatment, applying wax evenly and effectively completing detailed quality checks before return to customer. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, practical hands-on skills, and pride in delivering consistent workmanship.This role plays an important part in extending the lifespan of Barbour's jackets and supporting sustainable clothing care and restoration practices. The role involves intimate, personal, customer service and therefore exceptional standard of service is required.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:First port of call and leading the initial interaction with customers bringing in their jackets for re-waxing.Ensuring all information is clearly and accurately communicated of both process and expectation.Ensuring all necessary paperwork is completed accurately and filed correctly for each garment received.Inspect jackets for wear, damage and cleaning requirements.Clean and prepare garments before treatment.Apply wax evenly by hand or using specialist equipment.Heat-finish garments to ensure proper wax absorption and appearance.Carry out minor repairs such as patching, seam repairs, zip replacements, and lining fixes.Restore garments while maintaining original style and functionality.Check finished garments for quality, consistency and waterproofing.Maintain a clean and safe workshop environment.Record work completed and report any issues with garments.Skills and Experience:Excellent attention to detail with the ability to consistently maintain high standards of quality and presentation.Comfortable working with your hands and carrying out detailed finishing tasks with accuracy and care.Good understanding of garment care, fabric handling, and the importance of preserving product integrity throughout the restoration process.Ability to follow established procedures, quality standards, and work instructions while maintaining efficiency.Capable of working independently with minimal supervision, while also contributing positively within a team environment.Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise workload and meet production targets.Ability to identify defects, wear patterns, and garment issues, ensuring appropriate restoration and finishing techniques are applied.Commitment to maintaining a clean, safe and organised workspace.Understanding of fabric properties, treatments and performance characteristics.Patient, methodical and thorough in approach to work as well as quality-focused with strong commitment to delivering excellent results.Reliable, punctual, dependable, self-motivated and capable of maintaining productivity while being willing to learn new techniques and develop specialist skills.Interested in heritage clothing, craftsmanship, outdoor apparel or sustainable garment care and repair practices.Previous experience working with waxed cotton garments or similar heritage outerwear products.Sewing, alteration, garment repair or textile restoration experience.Experience in textile finishing, quality control, garment refurbishment, or outdoor apparel restoration.Knowledge of traditional garment care and maintenance methods, particularly for waxed jackets and outdoor clothing.Familiarity with workshop-based production environments and garment processing procedures.Additional Information:This is a full-time role, typically working 40 hours per week.This is a workshop-based role within a dedicated garment restoration and finishing environment.Work may involve standing for extended periods and performing repetitive manual tasks, using specialist equipment, heated tools, pressing equipment and garment finishing machinery.Full training will be provided on equipment, restoration techniques and quality standards as well as Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and relevant safety equipment.Generous Staff DiscountStaff UniformPension Scheme20 days holiday as standard (increasing with length of service, plus bank holidays)Note: In the event that a sufficient volume of suitable applications are received, the post may close prior to the specified closing date.
