Where You Come In

As a Senior Automation Engineer, you will serve as an SME for machine controls, sensors, and machine vision used in Dexcom’s automated manufacturing and testing equipment. You will work with internal and external equipment suppliers to ensure control hardware and software are implemented to provide reliable and robust automated manufacturing equipment solutions. You will also provide SME support to the replication, implementation, validation, and transfer of these systems into various internal and external manufacturing sites.

Responsibilities

* You will provide technical knowledge and leadership in controls, sensor technologies, and inspection systems used in automated manufacturing lines, aligning with stakeholders on requirements, improvements, needs, cost, and capacity targets.
* You will provide technical leadership and support for improvement, installation, start-up, validation, and transfer of automated manufacturing equipment related to machine controls (hardware and software), sensors, and machine vision.
* You will assess the efficacy, robustness, and reliability of controls, sensor, and inspection hardware/software solutions and propose improvements to meet reliability, capacity, and quality targets.
* You will coach and mentor junior controls engineers.
* You will oversee resolution of technical issues related to controls, machine vision, servo systems, and sensor technologies used in automated manufacturing and test equipment.
* You will contribute to the design of new automation equipment in your area of expertise to drive effective solutions.
* You will manage multiple automated manufacturing equipment projects simultaneously.
* You will contribute to equipment/automation documentation (user requirements, functional specs, trace matrices, acceptance testing, qualification, training) ensuring compliance with Dexcom’s quality systems.
* You will identify potential risks, assess impact, and develop mitigations within your area of responsibility.
* You will drive Six Sigma methodology and expertise within your team.

What Makes You Successful

* Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline, and a minimum of 5-8 years related experience or Master’s degree with 2-5 years, or PhD with 0-2 years.
* Strong background in implementing and supporting controls systems, HMIs, sensor technology, servo drive technology, and machine vision in automated manufacturing equipment; high-volume manufacturing experience preferred.
* Experience in medical device manufacturing is highly desired.
* Experience supporting qualification/validation of automated manufacturing equipment is highly desired.
* Experience programming or interfacing with robotic systems is desirable.
* Ability to adapt to fast-moving and changing environments.
* Experience with Allen-Bradley PLC controls platform.
* Strong technical problem-solving and risk management skills.
* Understanding of risk management policies and procedures in medical device manufacturing is highly desired.
* Detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task and maintain quality and accuracy.
* Strong technical leadership and collaboration skills; excellent interpersonal and written/verbal communication.
* Ability to travel to supplier and/or manufacturing sites if necessary.
* Six Sigma training and Belt certification highly desired.
