About the RoleWe are seeking a Concrete Scientist / R&D Materials Technologist to join an innovation-led organisation developing next-generation concrete and cementitious products. This is a research-focused role, centred on materials innovation, low-carbon solutions, and product commercialisation, rather than routine quality control.The successful candidate will play a key role in innovation and design, testing, and scaling novel concrete materials, working from laboratory concept through to pilot trials and market-ready products. The role will also involve applying geological understanding of aggregates and raw materials to support material selection, performance optimisation, and sustainable sourcing strategies.Reporting ToLine ManagerKey Responsibilities· Lead R&D programmes in innovative and low-carbon concrete materials· Design and test novel concrete mixes, alternative binders, and functional concretes· Conduct advanced laboratory testing on fresh and hardened concrete· Evaluate aggregate and raw material characteristics to support mix optimisation and performance· Develop and run pilot-scale trials and support field demonstrations· Translate research outputs into commercial products and technical data· Work on grant-funded innovation projects and collaborative research· Support IP development, technical documentation, and certification processes· Collaborate with production, academic, and supply-chain partnersRequired Qualifications and ExperienceEssential· Degree in Materials Science, Concrete Technology, Civil/Structural Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related geology/materials discipline· Hands-on experience in concrete testing, mix design, or materials development· Strong analytical and experimental skillsDesirable· MSc or PhD in concrete, materials science, or engineering geology· Experience in R&D, innovation, or pilot-scale development· Exposure to sustainability, LCA, or low-carbon materials· Understanding of aggregates, mineralogy, or geological materials used in concreteEssential· Curious, innovation-driven scientist or technologist· Comfortable working with early-stage ideas and experimentation· Ability to move research from lab to real-world application· Strong documentation and technical communication skillsDesirable· Experience supporting sustainability and low-carbon materials development· Experience working with collaborative research or innovation partnersWhat We Offer· A rare opportunity to work in true materials R&D, not routine QC· Long-term product development and innovation pipeline· Competitive salary· Collaboration with leading research partners in Ireland and the EU· A base in the North West of Ireland with strong quality of life and growth potentialJob Type: Full-timePay: €50,000.00-€65,000.00 per yearBenefits:On-site parkingWork Location: In person
