Role Overview
As Senior Engineer you will act as the technical lead on site, supporting project delivery from early works through to handover. You will manage a small team of junior setting-out engineers, engage with consultants on RFIs, technical submittals and clarifications, and ensure the quality and accuracy of setting-out, residential masonry work (block/brick), timber-frame, groundworks and site works. You will also be responsible for reviewing drawings and planning accordingly for the execution phase.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and supervise setting-out operations on site, managing junior setting-out engineers and ensuring accurate installations.
* Review construction drawings, details and specifications, coordinate with design/consultant teams on RFIs, submittals and technical clarifications.
* Oversee residential masonry work (block and brick laying) ensuring quality, tolerances and programme compliance.
* Coordinate timber-frame construction processes (installation, interfacing with other trades, sequence planning).
* Manage groundworks and general site works (foundations, enabling works, drainage, external works) and ensure alignment with engineering plans.
* Liaise with subcontractors, suppliers and specialist trades to ensure technical compliance, buildability and efficient execution.
* Monitor site engineering progress, prepare technical reports, maintain site engineering records (as-builts, setting-out logs, drawings revisions).
* Support site management team with planning, risk identification, method statements and quality assurance/quality control processes.
* Drive strong safety, quality and compliance culture within the engineering team and the overall site environment.
Required Skills & Experience
* Minimum 7 years' construction engineering experience (not just civils) in a busy contractor environment.
* Proven setting-out experience and ability to supervise junior engineers in that role.
* Strong experience with residential masonry construction (block or brick layers) and timber-frame systems.
* Groundworks and site works background (including enabling, substructures, external works) are essential.
* Excellent ability to review drawings, understand technical design intent, plan accordingly and coordinate execution.
* Good track record of managing RFIs, technical submittals, clarifications and working with consultants/design teams.
* Strong communication skills, able to lead a small team and interface with multiple stakeholders.
* Result-oriented, hands-on, comfortable on site and able to drive issues to resolution.
