About the Role
We are currently seeking an experienced Process Automation Engineer to support a leading pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Tipperary. This position plays a key role in the successful delivery of a DeltaV migration project, offering direct engagement with engineering, operations, and quality teams within a GMP-regulated environment.
This is a contract role suited to candidates with a strong background in Emerson DeltaV, process automation, and regulated industry compliance. The successful candidate will take ownership of system configuration, testing, commissioning, and documentation in accordance with best practices and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Serve as the primary automation contact for a DeltaV migration project within an API manufacturing environment
* Collaborate with engineering, operations, and QA teams to define automation requirements
* Develop and configure DeltaV systems in line with ISA-88 batch control strategies
* Lead FAT/SAT activities, commissioning, and startup of automation systems
* Provide technical input on control philosophies, alarm management, interlocks, and fail-safes
* Prepare and review GMP documentation including URS, FDS, SDS, test protocols, and change controls
* Ensure full compliance with GAMP 5, Annex 11, 21 CFR Part 11, and other relevant guidelines
* Support knowledge transfer and contribute to long-term automation planning
Requirements
* Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Automation, Process, Chemical, or related discipline)
* Minimum 5 years’ experience in automation within the pharmaceutical or API manufacturing sector
* Demonstrated hands-on expertise with Emerson DeltaV platforms in a GMP setting
* Strong understanding of batch automation (ISA-88), manufacturing workflows, and control systems
* Familiarity with industry standards and regulatory compliance: GAMP 5, Annex 11, 21 CFR Part 11
* Proven ability to interface effectively with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders
* Excellent communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills
Desirable Experience
* Expertise in alarm handling, fail-safe configuration, and control strategy development
* Experience leading automation aspects of capital or migration projects
* Involvement in end-user training and automation knowledge transfer initiatives
Additional Information
* On-site presence in Tipperary is required; no remote working
* Competitive daily rate depending on experience
* Long-term contract opportunity with potential for extension
