The CNM1 will:
1. Be responsible for the coordination, assessment, planning, implementation, and review of care for service users according to service standards.
2. Provide safe, comprehensive nursing care to service users within the guidelines laid out by An Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland).
3. Practice nursing according to:
* Professional Clinical Guidelines
* National and Area Health Service Executive (HSE) guidelines
* Local policies, protocols, and guidelines
* Current legislation
1. Manage own caseload in accordance with the needs of the post.
2. Encourage evidence-based practice, using a care planning approach to nursing care.
3. Participate in teams as appropriate, communicating and working in cooperation with other team members.
4. Collaborate with service users, family, carers, and other staff in treatment/care planning and in the provision of support and advice.
5. Communicate verbally and/or in writing results of assessments, treatment/care programmes, and recommendations to the team and relevant others in accordance with service policy.
6. Plan discharge or transition of the service user between services as appropriate.
7. Assist in providing staff leadership and motivation, conducive to good staff relations and work performance.
8. Ensure that service users and others are treated with dignity and respect.
9. Maintain nursing records in accordance with local service and professional standards.
10. Contribute to the development and maintenance of nursing standards, protocols, and guidelines, ensuring the highest standards of patient care.
11. Maintain professional standards regarding confidentiality, ethics, and legislation.
12. Implement and assess quality management programmes in consultation with CNM2 and other disciplines.
13. Participate in clinical audits as required.
14. Devise and implement health promotion programmes relevant to the post.
15. Lead and implement change, especially considering recommendations of the Commission on Nursing and the health service reform programme.
16. Operate within the Scope of Practice, seeking advice and assistance from the manager for cases beyond professional competence, in line with principles of best practice and clinical governance.
