Overview of Role
Join a well-established and expanding multi-disciplinary engineering team delivering high-performance automated equipment solutions from concept through to full implementation.
This is a senior technical leadership role, responsible for defining and delivering advanced control system architecture, driving innovation, and ensuring excellence in automation design and implementation across complex medical device projects.
You will serve as the company's leading expert in machine control systems, providing strategic technical direction, mentorship, and oversight to ensure the highest standards of design, reliability, and compliance.
Main Tasks
* Lead the design and integration of advanced control system software for automated machines, including PLCs, Robotics, Motion, HMI, SCADA, and Vision systems
* Define software architecture and best practices for automation projects, ensuring scalability and compliance with industry standards
* Develop, test, commission, and support machine control software for new and existing equipment
* Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentorship to Controls Engineers and other team members
* Collaborate cross-functionally within multi-disciplinary project teams throughout the entire project life cycle
* Specify and evaluate control system components, ensuring robust design and supply chain alignment
* Support the Technical Writer in producing validation documentation for regulated industries (URS, FDS, FAT, etc.)
* Lead problem-solving and continuous improvement initiatives across automation projects
* Contribute to strategic technical roadmaps and emerging technology evaluations for automation systems
Experience
* 8+ years of experience in Equipment Automation, with deep expertise in PLC and HMI programming (preferably Allen Bradley / Rockwell Automation)
* Proven leadership experience in the design and delivery of complex automated machine systems
* Expert knowledge of control system architecture, specification, and development
* Strong experience with robotics, motion control, machine vision, and pneumatic systems
* Experience within a regulated industry (medical device or pharmaceutical) highly advantageous
