About the Role: The Customs & Excise Manager/SME reports to the Regional Customs, Excise and Trade Compliance Lead under Global Tax.
Dimensions: Diageo's indirect tax liability is £7bn globally.
This role leads the part related to your markets and region's indirect tax queries.
Diageo saves £52 million annually on customs duties worldwide.
You will handle the related indirect tax queries within your region.
Responsibilities: Internal Interactions: Partner with regional supply business leaders to align on priorities.Collaborate with Tax Controls & Governance, Legal, Corporate Relations, and Global Tax teams.Maintain a strong relationship with the regional GBO customs and excise compliance team.Support supply chain change programs with global trade expertise.External Interactions: 1.
Customs & Excise Authorities: Manage relationships, conduct site audits, provide documentation, and handle technical inquiries.

3PL Providers & Customs Brokers: Monitor KPIs, support audits, conduct service reviews, and serve as the main contact.
Leadership Responsibilities: Influence decision-makers and guide operational units, demonstrating qualities such as strategic problem-solving, relationship building, integrity, communication, independence, mentorship, and cross-functional leadership.
Purpose of the Role: Provide expert support on global trade and excise governance to ensure effective management of Diageo's trade affairs within your region, applying global strategies and managing relationships with customs authorities and brokers.
Top Accountabilities: Implement global tax strategies and standards for customs & excise management.Support regional customs and excise issues, including classification, origin, free trade agreements, and documentation.Participate in global trade projects to enhance shareholder value and mitigate risks.Support standardization and simplification of processes and procedures.Stay updated on regulatory changes, identify risks/opportunities, and advise accordingly.Resolve queries from tax authorities and ensure operational licenses are in place.Governance over customs brokers, including documentation quality reviews.Required Skills & Experience: Extensive knowledge of customs and excise processes in a multinational environment.Experience handling audits and inquiries from authorities.Ability to provide technical advice on domestic and cross-border issues.Effective project management skills.Strong communication skills across diverse cultures.Minimum 4 years of customs/excise experience in a multinational or authority.Fluent in English, both written and spoken.Flexible Working & Diversity: We support flexible working arrangements.
