Working closely with the Head of Business Development and Head of Communications the Events & Communications Officer will primarily work on all preparation and management of our range of events as well as providing communications support.
As well as events, the role will support the delivery of European Movement Ireland's event related digital communications, which includes a good standard of skill and knowledge across graphic design, web and social media content.

The role of the Events & Communications Officer will work closely on events and communications campaigns with key stakeholders such as Governmental Departments, EU Institutions and European organisations.
Key responsibilities
Events
- Supporting the Head of Business Development in planning and organising a wide range of events including EM Ireland Member events and contracted events with stakeholders.
- Deliver logistical support in the planning and delivery of in person and hybrid events including sourcing venues, agreeing catering requirements and booking photographers.
- Assist in the sourcing of event speakers and providing support to them with briefings, test calls and answering event related queries.
- Managing and running of events along with building and managing strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to deliver events.
- Create relevant content for the EMI website relating to events and communications including event registration and promotion along with drafting event invitations and emails to attendees, researching target audiences for each event, and responding to event related queries.
- Maintain the event budget and manage the project costs liaising with the Finance team to ensure timely payment of event related invoices.
- Ensure accurate reporting of events' performance internally and to key stakeholders in line with contracted obligations.
Communications
- Supporting the Head of Communications in implementing EM Ireland's communications campaigns. Create and design email marketing campaigns via Mailchimp.
- Draft Social media posts and planning social media schedules across all platforms.
- Support on communications for the internal EM Ireland teams, partners, stakeholders to develop engaging campaigns and activities as part of EM Irelands work programme.
Other
- Work on various other projects, events and programmes as may be reasonably required from time to time.
- Keeping up to-date with current issues and public opinion concerning Irish and European Affairs.
Experience & Skills
- A relevant third level qualification.
- 1- 2 years of relevant work experience in events or project management.
- A proven ability to assist the delivery of projects, work effectively as part of a team and take ownership of tasks seeing them through to completion and successful outcome.
- Good organisational, planning and problem-solving skills.
- The ability to adapt to the needs of a busy and changing environment and deliver tasks within time constraints and react effectively to changing priorities.
- Possess strong attention to detail and high accuracy.
- The ability to work on one's own initiative and to meet tight deadlines.
- Excellent written communication skills and digital skills, a familiarity with WordPress and Mailchimp.
- Content creation, graphic design and video editing. (Canva, Adobe, CapCut applications).
- Experience of social media posting on X, LinkedIn, Meta, TikTok, YouTube and Bluesky.
- Experience with WP forms (WordPress) and web.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Appreciation of non-governmental organisations and the environment in which we operate in.
- Experience of Google Analytics and similar platforms
- Podcast recording and editing (Audacity)
- Very good knowledge and/or experience of EU affairs.
- Experience of developing, implementing and reporting on funded projects and programmes.
- Language skills, the Irish language in particular.

- Full-time, based in Dublin City Centre with travel as required.

About EMI's Stage Programme
This is a six-month stage programme, with dates to be agreed mutually between you and your manager. You will receive in-depth induction, training, a personal development plan, ongoing career coaching and mentorship, networking opportunities and regular support from the EMI Senior Management team. You will learn directly from experienced members of the team but can be afforded opportunities to learn new skills in areas such as education, policy & research, events, communications and outreach.
Role Purpose
Working closely with the Education Manager, the Stagiaire's role will focus on assisting with the implementation of our wide-ranging education projects, including the Blue Star Programme. EMI is the national implementation body of the Blue Star Programme, and our role is to provide training and support for participating schools and administer the Programme from registration, developing resources and creating reports.
The role will also involve close coordination with the organisation's EU jobs outreach programme, helping to inform and educate people about the career opportunities within the EU institutions.
In addition to working on these two education programmes the stagiaire will be expected to work on smaller education programmes and support the wider activities of EM Ireland. We are looking for someone with drive, passion, flexibility, and commitment to join the team as EM Ireland grows at an important time for Ireland and Europe.
Main Tasks
- Working as a key support on EM Ireland's education projects including liaising with schools and universities, develop programme resources, and provide administrative support.
- Working closely with the team to develop our outreach to promote EU Jobs opportunities for Irish Graduates and provide them with updated supports.
- Helping to provide communication support including developing and creating digital content on social media, newsletters and basic website management.
- Keeping up to-date with current issues and public opinions concerning Irish and European affairs.
- Act in accordance with the objectives and ethos of the organisation.
- Work on various other projects, events and programmes as required and undertake other duties as they may be reasonably required from time to time.
Experience and Knowledge
- A third level degree in a field related to the work of EM Ireland
- Strong digital & communication skills: experience using social media and online platforms is desirable
- Experience working on education related projects, i.e. in College/University or through volunteer work
- An understanding of the EU institutions and how they work
- Strong organisational skills and administration skills
- An appreciation of the Not-for-Profit sector
- Knowledge of Irish or a second EU language would be helpful, but not obligatory

Location & Terms
The Stage Placement will receive €1,356 per month bursary for 30hours per week (10am to 5pm).
The ideal candidate will possess relevant previous experience, through volunteering or through previous employment.
EM Ireland's place of work is in Dublin City Centre. We are currently operating a hybrid working model where 50% of the working week is in the office. This is at the discretion of the organisation. Occasional national travel may be required for this role.
