Job Summary
The Curriculum Services Supervisor provides district-wide leadership for K–12 curriculum, instruction, and professional learning across ELA, math, science, social studies, and physical education/health.
The supervisor ensures equitable and rigorous instruction in all Anchorage School District schools, oversees curriculum review and adoption processes, and manages professional development for educators.
This position manages budgets, oversees staffing and workflow, and serves as the primary liaison with community, state, and national partners.
This position requires a valid Alaska teaching or administrative certificate and has a retirement association with the Alaska Teachers' Retirement System (TRS).
Job Requirements
A bachelor's degree in education or a related field.
A valid Alaska initial, professional, or master teaching certificate.
Preferred Qualifications
A master's degree in education or a related field.
A minimum of four years of experience in curriculum leadership, instructional coaching, or educational administration.
Knowledge of curriculum development, instructional standards, and assessment design across multiple content areas.
Experience with K–12 curriculum adoption processes, data-driven decision making, and systemwide instructional planning.
Knowledge of adult learning theory, professional learning design, and differentiated instruction.
Competency in project management, team leadership, and collaborative problem-solving.
Experience facilitating cross-district teams, committees, and advisory groups.
Skills in strategic planning, grant writing, and community partnership development.
Essential Job Functions
Implements the Teaching and Learning Department needs in the service of the Academic Strategic Action Plan for curriculum, assessment, and professional learning across ELA, math, science, social studies, and PE/health.
Leads ASD in maintaining consistent, rigorous, and equitable educational experiences across all schools based on best practices.
Coordinates across departments to implement Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) for all students.
Maintains an ongoing presence in schools to develop strong professional relationships with teachers and administrators.
Coordinates and leads district curriculum review work and advisory groups for all content areas.
Facilitates teacher groups in the development of curriculum aligned with district-approved standards and designs professional learning opportunities to implement the curriculum.
Facilitates the development, implementation, and analysis of common assessments.
Chairs regular meetings, including organizing the structure and supporting the facilitation of department chair meetings and content-specific advisory groups.
Serves as a point of contact for collaborations with community partnerships, universities, and state and national organizations to promote curriculum initiatives.
Provides support responsive to specific school and staff needs.
Assists with grant writing and funding opportunities to advance district and department initiatives.
Exhibits knowledge of current research and trends in curriculum and instruction.
Maintains confidentiality of student and school records.
Mentors, coaches, and guides designated educators and addenda staff to ensure consistent curriculum implementation and instruction.
Oversees the development of K–12 scope and sequences, course frameworks, and priority standards across all content areas.
Physical / Mental Demands
The physical demands of this job require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking and hearing.
Specific visual abilities are also required.
The employee is regularly required to reach with his/her hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing less than 40 lbs.
Additionally, the employee must be able to understand vague and implicit instructions, be able to readily recall facts and details, handle conflict and make effective decisions under pressure.
The employee must have the ability to effectively manage the stress of working with students, parents, and other employees representing diverse cultures, personalities, and work styles in a dynamic work environment.
