Position Overview
We are looking for an experienced and technically competent Technical Supervisor to lead the day-to-day supervision of laboratory and site-based materials testing operations. This roles ensures all testing is conducted accurately, efficiently, and in full compliance with industry standards, company procedures, and regulatory requirements.
As the technical lead within the team, you will oversee technicians, provide guidance on testing procedures, ensure accurate reporting, and uphold quality standards—playing a key role in maintaining accreditation (e.g., UKAS) and supporting continuous improvement across materials testing processes.
Key Responsibilities
Provide technical consultation in the fields of aggregate production, asphalt production, concrete production and pavement engineering.
Manage the aggregate, asphalt and concrete products technical activities throughout the supply chain. This includes QA/QC activities, troubleshooting production issues at the depot level, as well as implementing technological enhancements.
Collaborate with Senior Technical Manager, Technical Mangers in other areas and Marketing on improvement or business development projects.
Contribute and manage R&D projects in the field of concrete mix design, asphalt mix design, highway and airfield pavement engineering and quality control.
Keep Informed of the latest trends and technology in the industry locally and internationally, making appropriate recommendations on business direction.
Review specification changes and the implications for Breedon Ireland.
Research new and upcoming test procedures and the effect on Breedon Ireland operations.
Assist on the technical aspect contract bidding and secured projects.
Maintain and administer QA/QC plan for production plants within Breedon Ireland.
Ensuring that processes of the integrated management system (IMS) are maintained.
Record and Report on the performance of the integrated management system, including needs for improvement.
Ensuring the promotion of awareness of customer requirements throughout the company.
Acting as liaison with external parties on matters relating to the integrated management system.
Auditing the system as per the requirements of the audit schedule.
Ensuring that adequate training has been given to all appropriate personnel and that they are fully familiar with their roles and responsibility within the IMS.
Monitoring test frequencies and results at all relevant depot laboratories.
Investigate and report on defects, non-conformances, and any required remedial action.
Maintain and develop relationship with external third-party test houses who provide compliance testing and personnel as required.
Prepare approval submissions and attend pre-commencement project meetings.
Build & maintain relationship with customer quality representatives.
Ensuring the promotion of awareness of customer requirements throughout Breedon Ireland.
Direct, manage and seek out innovation opportunities as well as best practice for Breedon Ireland along with other potential partners. Responsible for exploring and studying new construction technologies.
Involvement and/or membership of relevant industry working groups/bodies eg NSAI, ICF, IAT
Liaise and Support Breedon Ireland Sustainability Manager on business targets and KPI's.
Perform other duties as required.

Essential Criteria
A qualification in engineering, science or quality and/or equivalent industry experience
Experience working in a similar Manger or Supervisor Role
Experience of working in a team environment, providing information and support to colleagues
Experience and Knowledge of the European Construction Product Regulation for Aggregates, Asphalt, Concrete and experience working with recognised accreditation standards
Ability to be flexible in working hours, working night shifts or weekends if required
Computer literacy, knowledge of Microsoft Office suite including Excel
A full clean driver's licence is essential.
