Social Worker – Mental Health
The Social Worker (Mental Health) will work as part of the multidisciplinary team (MDT) within the Department of Psychiatry in Drogheda and provide comprehensive psychosocial assessment, therapeutic support, and care planning for individuals experiencing mental health difficulties.
Responsibilities of Social Worker – Mental Health
* Carry out comprehensive psychosocial assessments for service users referred to the Department of Psychiatry (inpatient, outpatient, and community).
* Formulate and implement individual care plans in collaboration with the service user, family, and MDT.
* Provide evidence-informed therapeutic interventions, including counselling, family work, crisis intervention, and relapse prevention.
* Contribute to risk assessments and management plans for service users presenting with complex psychosocial and mental health needs.
* Support discharge planning and ensure continuity of care across acute, community, and voluntary sectors.
* Engage in safeguarding assessments and interventions in accordance with HSE National Safeguarding Policy.
* Participate in case conferences, multidisciplinary reviews, and ward rounds.
* Advocate for service users and their families to access appropriate services, supports, and entitlements.
* Work in collaboration with other members of the MDT including psychiatry, nursing, occupational therapy, psychology, and peer support workers.
* Participate in team meetings, service development initiatives, and quality improvement projects.
* Contribute to staff training, supervision of students, and education sessions as required.
* Engage in continuous professional development (CPD) and reflective practice.
* Comply with all relevant HSE policies, procedures, and health & safety requirements.
Requirements of Social Worker – Mental Health
* A recognised qualification in Social Work and registration with CORU
* Relevant post-qualification experience in mental health, psychiatry, or related clinical settings would be beneficial
* Knowledge of mental health legislation, recovery principles, and HSE mental health frameworks (Sharing the Vision, A Vision for Change).
* Demonstrated ability to conduct psychosocial assessments, crisis intervention, and collaborative care planning.
