MSC (Mediterranean Shipping Company) Limited, a global leader in containerised shipping with offices in 155 countries, is seeking a Senior Commercial Manager to join its dynamic commercial team in Dublin, Ireland.
Job Description
The successful candidate will develop and manage the commercial activity of a busy office, working closely with the commercial director, trade managers, and head office. Responsibilities include maintaining pricing policies, managing the commercial budget, and ensuring trade budgets are met while driving business development and performance management.
The key tasks for the Senior Commercial Manager are as follows:
Promote and maintain sea freight pricing policy in conjunction with the local commercial director and head office.
Oversee current pricing policies, liaising with trade managers and the internal sales team.
Manage approved commercial budgets with the local commercial director and head office.
Review approved commercial budgets, ensuring the commercial team remains on track and identify areas for improvement.
Business Development
Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including existing customers and key-account programmes.
Stay updated on industry trends and market conditions to recommend business development opportunities.
Target new business accounts across all trades with the commercial teams and global agents overseas.
Attend client site visits periodically to promote core and added‑value services and maximise customer relationships.
Participate in overseas European trade meetings throughout the year.
Performance Management
Manage local trade managers and guide the wider commercial team.
Develop the commercial team to meet expectations from local management and head office.
Review performance and statistical reports for the commercial director and head office.
Collaborate closely with commercial teams in Cork and Belfast offices.
The successful Senior Commercial Manager should have the following skills:
Experience in developing commercial sales processes and systems.
Global international experience within the shipping industry.
Excellent negotiation skills at a senior level.
Proven experience managing and leading commercial teams.
Ability to create business development plans that secure new business.
Creative capacity to develop, promote, and deliver improvement strategies.
Strong leadership and communication skills to motivate the commercial team.
Outstanding geographical awareness and mathematical ability regarding currency fluctuations.
First‑class organisational and presentation skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM applications.
Self‑motivation, initiative, and ability to work to tight deadlines.
Full clean EU driving licence.
Minimum twelve years’ experience in container shipping or freight forwarding, with at least three years in a senior commercial management position.
