About the Role:
The Senior Technical & Product Underwriter will play a pivotal role within the Technical Underwriting team, focusing on drafting and delivering contract documentation, developing and enhancing products to ensure they are market-leading, and contributing to projects and change initiatives that improve underwriting processes and meet regulatory requirements. You will also support the Contractors Advisory Service and have exposure to strategic activities within the underwriting department, helping to shape the future of our underwriting function.
Fitness & Probity and Conduct Standards
IPB Insurance is a financial institution regulated by the Central Bank of Ireland. As such, this role is regulated and subject to the Fitness and Probity Standards as set out by the Central Bank. These standards require that individuals performing Controlled Functions (CFs) are competent, capable, honest, ethical, and act with integrity. In addition, the role is subject to the Conduct Standards introduced under the Central Bank (Individual Accountability Framework) Act 2023, which apply throughout the course of employment. Accordingly, this role will be subject to enhanced pre-employment screening procedures, and there will be an ongoing requirement for the role holder to maintain both fit and proper status and adherence to the Conduct Standards throughout their employment.
To be successful in the role you will be accountable for:
* Drafting, reviewing, and maintaining policy wordings, endorsements, schedules, and associated documentation throughout the underwriting lifecycle.
* Ensuring documentation is compliant with regulatory standards, reflects underwriting intent, and is clear and consistent for brokers and customers.
* Providing expert guidance on the interpretation and application of policy wordings to support underwriting decisions.
* Developing new insurance products, including design, documentation, market research, and competitor analysis to identify trends and opportunities for differentiation.
* Collaborating with actuarial, distribution, and marketing teams to ensure products meet customer needs and regulatory requirements.
* Specifying, developing, and enhancing underwriting processes, systems, and pricing tools to improve efficiency and accuracy, including implementing automation or digital solutions.
* Providing technical support to the Contractors Advisory Service and other specialist underwriting functions, offering advice on complex risks and acting as a point of escalation.
* Contributing to the design, delivery, and monitoring of the Underwriting Quality Assurance Strategy, supporting internal audit and peer review processes to maintain compliance.
* Drafting, reviewing, and maintaining content for the Underwriting Manual and other guidance documents, ensuring clarity and alignment with strategy.
* Leading or contributing to projects and change initiatives that support business growth, efficiency, or transformation.
* Delivering technical and product training for underwriters and updating other departments on policy changes.
* Helping establish and maintain quality benchmarks, risk appetite parameters, and performance metrics across products and teams.
* Monitoring and reporting on project outcomes, identifying lessons learned, and embedding continuous improvement.
What we're looking for:
* CIP/MDI with expectations of progression to ACII; a relevant third level qualification in business finance, risk or similar advantageous.
* Proven experience in a technical underwriting role with strong expertise in policy and product management.
* Solid understanding of the regulatory environment, including IDD, CPC, and CICA, and how it influences underwriting, product, and pricing strategies.
* Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and communicate effectively.
* Experience in business process analysis and documentation.
* Excellent relationship-building skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
