Company Overview
We are a growing technology-driven organisation with approximately 180 users and multiple cloud-based systems. We operate with an outsourced IT support partner, and we are strengthening our internal capability to drive cloud operations, security controls, governance, and compliance delivery.
We are seeking a Senior Engineer who enjoys hands-on delivery and project ownership, can drive structured improvements across our cloud environment, and can support ISO 27001 / ISMS and NIS2-related compliance activities.
This is not a general IT support or helpdesk role; it is focused on governance, compliance, cloud oversight, and delivery.
Role Purpose
The successful candidate will take ownership of day-to-day execution across cloud operations and governance initiatives, including clean-up and improvement work, implementation of controls, and delivery of internal IT/cloud projects. You will work closely with the VP of Information Systems and our third-party IT provider, ensuring work is progressed, completed, and evidenced.
This role suits a self-motivated, delivery-focused engineer who can progress tasks independently and drive initiatives to completion.
Key Responsibilities
1) Cloud Operations & Internal Project Delivery
* Own and deliver internal IT/cloud projects from requirements through to implementation.
* Identify and remediate gaps across cloud security, access management, configuration and operational processes.
* Specify and coordinate end-user technology requirements (PC/laptop standards, procurement input, lifecycle, rollouts).
* Work with stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into technical solutions and work packages.
2) Access Governance, Controls & Cloud Clean-up
* Maintain an accurate view of cloud platforms and SaaS systems (Microsoft 365, Azure, AWS, Google Workspace and other SaaS).
* Review and improve user accounts, permissions, privileged access and system ownership.
* Implement and maintain practical controls, including:
* MFA and access policy standards
* Role-based access / least privilege
* Joiner-mover-leaver access controls
* Configuration and change tracking standards
* Create and maintain documentation that supports consistent operations (ownership, procedures, standards, baselines).
3) Vendor / MSP Oversight & Operational Coordination
* Act as the primary internal operational contact for the third-party IT provider.
* Prompt, follow up and validate vendor work (ensuring outcomes are met, not just tickets closed).
* Maintain IT asset registers (hardware, software and cloud accounts) and ensure licensing and lifecycle tracking is accurate.
* Oversee onboarding/offboarding and device provisioning processes (execution may be shared with the vendor).
4) ISO 27001 / ISMS & Compliance Support
* Contribute to implementation and ongoing maintenance of the ISMS aligned to ISO 27001.
* Support access reviews, risk assessments, corrective actions and evidence gathering.
* Support internal and external audits by maintaining audit-ready documentation and tracking remediation actions through to closure.
* Support definition and maintenance of security controls across authentication, encryption and data protection.
5) Continuous Improvement & Reporting
* Identify operational and governance improvements and drive them through to completion.
* Provide clear updates on progress, risks and blockers.
* Support the VP of Information Systems in delivery of the IT governance and security roadmap.
Experience & Qualifications
Essential
* 5+ years' experience in cloud operations, IT engineering, or security-focused IT roles.
* Experience working with cloud environments (Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, AWS, or Azure)
* Understanding of information security principles, risk management, and compliance frameworks (ISO 27001, GDPR, NIST).
* Hands-on experience with vulnerability management, patch control, and endpoint security.
* Strong documentation, process mapping, and reporting skills.
* Experience managing or coordinating outsourced IT vendors or MSPs.
* Excellent communication, organization, and analytical skills.
* Strong documentation skills and a structured, process-driven approach.
Desirable
Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or Cybersecurity.
Certifications such as:
* ITIL Foundation (v4) – for IT service management and governance
* CompTIA Security+ or (ISC)² Certified in Cybersecurity (CC)
* Microsoft Certified: Google Cloud Digital Leader
* Microsoft SC-900: Security, Compliance & Identity Fundamental
* CIPP/E, CGRC or CRISC, Microsoft 365 Certified: Administrator / Fundamentals, or similar.
* ISO/IEC 27001 Advanced Risk & Implementer Training
