We are seeking a Controls Technician 2 to support equipment engineers in the improvement, installation, validation and transfer of replicate custom automated equipment used in the scale-up of manufacturing for existing or new Dexcom products.
Under the direction of the Engineering Technician Supervisor for our Applicators team, this role provides technical support to cross-functional equipment deployment teams and collaborates with outside suppliers to meet equipment specifications and timelines.
Responsibilities
Work with schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, layouts or defined plans to perform testing, checkout and troubleshooting functions.
Test performance of electro-mechanical assemblies using appropriate test equipment.
Apply experience with pneumatics, electromechanical systems, PLCs, and robotic systems in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
Operate, test, or maintain robotic equipment and vision systems.
Analyze and record test results and prepare written documentation.
Perform operational testing and fault isolation on automated systems and equipment.
Carry out activities in equipment development under supervision of the project engineer, including assembly and testing of equipment, fixtures, processes and/or electronics, and completing engineering studies and validations.
Follow Dexcom's Safety and Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO) program.
Update equipment-related documentation (manuals, drawings, specifications) as needed.
Perform all assigned tasks with appropriate safety requirements and assume other duties as assigned.
What makes you successful
Experience with troubleshooting and maintaining PLC-controlled automation equipment is essential.
Experience with robotics, vision systems and electro-mechanical assemblies is advantageous.
Typically requires a Level 6/7 qualification and 2-4 years of related experience.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical documents related to equipment specifications.
Ability to write routine reports, pass-downs and correspondence; effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisors, engineers and managers.
Experience with process improvement projects (e.g., improving yields, reducing downtime).
Proven ability to work hands-on in a fast-paced environment and strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of high-reliability, high-volume manufacturing equipment and processes; technical writing skills for manufacturing documentation and process development.
