Civil Engineering Apprentice

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Civil Engineering Apprentice to join our team. As a civil engineering apprentice, you will learn on the job with hands-on experience and academic development.


Job Description:

Civil engineering apprentices will gain skills in construction site management, working under an experienced mentor and university tutor. Responsibilities include dimensional control of site works, project engineering requirements, site planning, activity coordination, quality control checks, and site inspections.


Key Skills and Qualifications:

* Dimensional control of site works: This involves ensuring that the physical dimensions of site works are accurately controlled to meet project specifications.
* Project engineering requirements: You will be responsible for developing and implementing project engineering requirements to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standard.
* Site planning and activity coordination: This includes developing and implementing site plans to optimize project efficiency and coordinating activities to ensure smooth project execution.
* Reading and interpreting site documents (e.g. drawings, specifications, standards): You will need to have strong analytical skills to interpret complex site documents and apply this knowledge to support project delivery.
* Supporting project engineers and construction managers in developing construction strategies and schedules: This requires effective communication and problem-solving skills to develop and implement project strategies and schedules.
* Performing quality control checks: You will be responsible for conducting regular quality control checks to ensure that site works meet project specifications and quality standards.
* Undertaking site inspections: This includes inspecting site works to identify any defects or non-compliances and taking corrective action as necessary.
* Collaborating with engineers and managers to create construction strategies and work sequences: You will need to work effectively with cross-functional teams to develop and implement construction strategies and work sequences.
* Learning to conduct concept design and site inspections for temporary works: This requires developing your understanding of temporary works and applying this knowledge to support project delivery.
* Assisting with the review and analysis of civil and structural tenders: You will need to have strong analytical skills to review and analyze tender submissions to ensure that they meet project requirements.
* Helping develop design and remedial solutions: This requires creative problem-solving skills to develop design and remedial solutions to address project issues.
* Preparing risk assessments and method statements: You will be responsible for preparing risk assessments and method statements to identify and mitigate potential risks on site.
* Gaining knowledge in as-built surveys and monitoring survey operations: This requires developing your understanding of as-built surveys and monitoring survey operations to support project delivery.
* Ensuring subcontractors comply with best practices in surveying and setting out: You will need to work effectively with subcontractors to ensure that they comply with best practices in surveying and setting out.
* Raising Non-Conformance Reports and assisting with quality control tasks: You will be responsible for raising Non-Conformance Reports and assisting with quality control tasks to ensure that site works meet project specifications and quality standards.
