Job Title: Delivery Driver (Furniture & Bulk Goods)

Contract Type: Permanent, Full Time (37.5 hours per week)

Working Hours: Daytime shifts, 5 days per week (Monday - Saturday, with rostered days off)

Location: The driver base is located in Cherry Orchard, howeverthe driver will deliver and collect from locations throughout the country.

Salary: €31,000

Reports To: Logistics Manager

Closing Date: 31st October 2025



Overview & Purpose of the Role


To safely and efficiently carry out the collection and delivery of donated furniture and bulk goods, supporting the organisation's retail activities. The role involves significant manual handling and physical work as part of a team contributing to the organisation's charitable objectives.

The delivery driver will offer every assistance to retail shop teams to increase sales & profits for the benefit of people who are blind and vision impaired, supporting and endorsing the aims and values of the organisation.

Duties & Responsibilities


Collections, Deliveries & Shop Support

* Collect and deliver donated or sold furniture safely and efficiently between shops, customers, and other locations as required.
* Secure all goods properly during transport and ensure items are handled with care and respect.
* Assist shop teams with furniture assembly, shop displays, and removal of unsaleable or waste items in line with health and safety standards.
* Support the smooth running of daily shop operations and contribute to maintaining excellent customer and donor service.

Vehicle Care & Driving Standards

* Carry out daily and weekly vehicle safety checks and report any faults or damages immediately.
* Keep vehicles clean, tidy, and well maintained.
* Follow all Irish road traffic regulations and organisational driving policies.
* Ensure safe reversing and maneuvering with assistance from team members where required.
* Park and secure vehicles responsibly at all times.

Health, Safety & Compliance

* Follow all health and safety procedures, including manual handling and vehicle safety guidelines.
* Report any safety or maintenance issues promptly to the manager.
* Support a safe, inclusive, and respectful working environment in line with company policy and Irish employment legislation.
* Minimise the environmental impact of transport activities and comply with recycling and waste procedures.

Teamwork & Volunteer Support

* Work collaboratively with shop and warehouse teams to plan and prioritise daily routes and tasks.
* Support, train, and communicate effectively with volunteer team members, ensuring they understand and follow company procedures.
* Help maintain adequate staffing levels and promote a positive and supportive team environment.

Administration & Communication

* Complete all required documentation accurately (e.g. delivery notes, mileage logs, fuel receipts).
* Use appropriate communication channels to share updates, instructions, and information with colleagues.
* Attend training sessions, meetings, and fundraising or organisational events as required.
* Assist in planning efficient routes and maintaining compliance with audit, safety, and operational standards.

General

* Represent the organisation professionally and positively at all times.
* Be flexible in supporting additional duties when required to meet operational needs.
* Uphold the organisation's values, policies, and commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.


Essential Experience, Skills and Competencies

* Proven experience driving a van or similar vehicle for multi-drop deliveries and collections.
* Good knowledge of local and regional road networks and safe route planning.
* Ability to safely handle, load, and unload furniture and other bulky items in accordance with manual handling guidelines.
* Awareness of safe loading techniques, basic vehicle maintenance, and record-keeping requirements (e.g. delivery notes, mileage logs).
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage respectfully with customers, donors, colleagues, and volunteers.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a small team, using initiative and sound judgement.
* Reliable, punctual, and committed to providing excellent service in line with the organisation's values.
* Understanding of and commitment to health and safety, equality, and diversity in the workplace.
* Full, clean Category B driver's licence (required for driving a standard van).


Preferred Experience and Skills

* Experience in the delivery, collection, and assembly of furniture or other bulky household goods.
* Previous experience working within a charity, community enterprise, or not-for-profit organisation.
* Experience supervising or working alongside volunteers.
