About the Role
Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent
Work Hours: 37.5 hours per week; Monday-Friday, 5-day liability
Location: Usher's Island, Dublin 8
Reports to: Nurse Manager of SUSD
The job purpose of the Supervisor is to Support the operations of the unit, supporting the team to provide good quality safe care to the clients who attend the unit.
The Step Up, Step Down- Intermediate Care Centre is a residential unit operated by Dublin Simon Community and Safetynet Primary Care with support from key collaborators including Housing First, HSE ACCESS Mental Health, Inclusion Health teams at St James's Hospital and Mater Misericordiae University Hospital Dublin.
The service is funded and supported by HSE Social Inclusion and the Department of Health.
The purpose of the unit in Dublin city centre is to provide short term semi acute healthcare (medical and nursing) interventions, treatment, investigations, observations for people without homes and who fit the below eligibility criteria.
Core Job Requirements
To support the team (project workers, support worker) with their scorecard objectives.
To execute decisions regarding behaviour management and safe discharge of clients, adherence to duty of care and Placement sustainment protocol, elevate any queries from the team to the unit manager for inclusion in supervision.
To support volunteers, CES and CEE, fully fill their roles on the units.
Support the Unit manager and the GP by becoming familiar with the referral / pre assessment and admissions process and support same.
In the absence of the manager communicate rota changes from the SUSD unit team to the rota admin and keep staff updated.
Update leave planner and communicate leave.
To work with nurse manager re nurse and staff cover in case of sick leave or absence and ensure unit is covered.
Become familiar with rota management rules (for approving annual leave, securing cover for sick leave/unexpected leave).
To work with the unit manager to organise, delegate and disseminate minutes of team meetings and unit referral meetings.
Working with the manager to follow through on incident reporting and corrective actions and sending through to Manager, H&S reporting, Quality Lead and Head of Treatment.
Oversight of operations such as Maintenance request and follow up, Petty cash procedure, Health and Safety checks sheets and compliance, Fire safety: Procedures such as fire alarm tests, drills.
Safety procedures: doors windows night time procedures, updating of local risk registers for approval by the manager.
Support the PW (Project Worker) and support workers by becoming familiar with their roles in the unit and assisting with daily planning, group work and delegating tasks to run the unit efficiently.
Attend weekly handover meetings with nurse unit manager and attend morning handover meetings with team on the unit.
Log all feedback and complaints received on the complaints log according to policy.
Submit log quarterly to Q&P and elevate any complaints to the manager for management and investigation.
Work with the Quality lead to develop and roll out audits, reports, corrective actions, monitoring compliance of key tasks specific to the unit.
To prepare induction for new staff, co-ordinating training, local induction, attendance at organisation induction, medicals, visa and bank set up.
Work with nurse unit manager to develop scorecard and submit scorecard update to Head of Treatment quarterly.
To prepare reports, data (statistics for the Q&P office, HSE statistics, complaints and incident reports) and other information as required by Dublin Simon Community and to adhere to good record keeping guidelines and usage of the Internal IT Systems.
To show reasonable flexibility in relation to hours of attendance to meet the needs of the work.
Work during unsocial hours may be required.
To be vigilant to any Health, Safety and Welfare risks in the workplace and bring any concerns to the attention of your line manager or Health & Safety Representative.
To undertake other duties as may be requested by the line manager from time to time.
Qualifications
Recognised third-level qualification in Psychology, Community Development, Counselling, Social Care, Social Work, or similar.
2 years' experience in homeless services or working with vulnerable and disadvantaged groups.
1/2 years' supervisory experience.
Understanding of why people become homeless and the needs they have.
Recordkeeping, report writing.
IT skills including Microsoft, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook.
Client-focused, adaptable, accountable, resilient individual.
Excellent communicator, with the ability to advocate on the client's behalf.
Ability to manage challenging behaviour, whilst being respectful and professional.
