Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Pre-Assessment Nurse Specialist to join our healthcare team. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting thorough pre-operative assessments, identifying and managing pre-existing medical conditions, and coordinating necessary tests and investigations.
Key Responsibilities:
* Conduct detailed pre-operative assessments, including medical history reviews, physical examinations, and necessary investigations.
* Identify and manage pre-existing medical conditions that may impact surgical outcomes, ensuring patients receive optimal care.
* Coordinate and facilitate necessary pre-operative tests, such as blood work, ECGs, MRSA screening, and imaging, to ensure accurate diagnosis and effective treatment.
* Recognize and escalate any potential risks to the appropriate consultant or consultant anaesthetist, prioritizing patient safety.
* Optimize patients for surgery by ensuring they are fit and adequately prepared, reducing the risk of complications.
* Provide comprehensive patient education regarding their upcoming procedure, anaesthesia, fasting guidelines, and medication adjustments, empowering patients to make informed decisions.
* Address patient concerns, answer questions, and provide reassurance, fostering a supportive and caring environment.
* Collaborate with consultants, anaesthetists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient care, promoting effective communication and teamwork.
Administrative Duties:
* Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, ensuring all pre-assessment documentation is completed and readily available.
* Ensure all test results are reviewed and communicated properly, facilitating timely and informed decision-making.
* Schedule follow-up assessments, guaranteeing patients receive ongoing care and support.
* Participate in quality improvement initiatives in the department, driving continuous improvement and excellence in patient care.
* Adhere to hospital policies, national guidelines, and best practices in pre-operative assessment, maintaining the highest standards of care.
* Develop strong relationships with patients, families, and colleagues, demonstrating empathy and compassion in all interactions.
* Maintain a safe and respectful environment within the department, ensuring staff and patients feel valued and supported.
