About the Role
The primary objective of this post is to provide care and support through a person‑centred approach to residents with intellectual disability/ABI/Autism. Under the direction of the Unit Manager, the staff nurse will be responsible for ensuring the privacy, dignity and respect of residents at all times.
Support service users to identify and pursue personal goals through a Person‑Centred approach.
Assist service users in gaining FETAC or other qualifications appropriate to their level of ability and skill assessment.
Work in partnership with MDT colleagues, day‑service staff, families and other key people to support service users in achieving their personal goals, guided by the individual care plan.
Assess service users regularly and systematically using suitable assessment models.
Monitor health and respond to medical concerns by reporting to the unit manager, liaising with GP, or accompanying service users to other medical appointments where appropriate.
Carry out all duties related to medication as governed by An Bord Altranais and Talbot Group policies and guidelines.
Support service users to manage their personal medication in line with current practice.
Responsible for all clinical procedures within the scope of nursing practice.
Role Requirements
Registered in the Intellectual Disability/Mental Health Division of the Live Register of Nurses maintained by An Bord Altranais (INMB) or be entitled to so register.
Experience working in a residential, respite or day service setting with persons with an intellectual disability.
Knowledge of Person‑Centred Planning.
Knowledge of both clinical and human resource policies and procedures and relevant legislation.
Knowledge of National Disability Standards (HIQA).
