What will the role offer?
We have a permanent Lead Senior Signalling Engineer position to join our Consulting Rail team in Dublin. Amey Consulting are an appointed Design partner on some of the biggest and most intricate rail infrastructure projects across the UK, including Wales & Borders, The TransPennine Route Upgrade (TRU), Midland Mainline and Crossrail. Our signalling team improves connectivity, brings better journeys to passengers, and engineers the future of rail safety and efficiency.
The standard working week is 37.5 hours. We offer a wide range of flexible working arrangements, including hybrid, part‑time and flexible working patterns. With our brand‑new Dublin office, we are open to discussing working options that suit your needs.
What You Will Be Doing
Our Senior Signalling Engineers play an important part within the Consulting Rail Signalling team and alongside our clients, including Network Rail. As a Lead Senior Engineer you will be a key part of the team and take responsibility for supporting your Design Team on a variety of rail design schemes whilst taking the lead on projects.
Responsibilities Include
Managing the signalling design elements of complete projects including control systems, interlocking, track circuits and communication systems; leading a team to produce technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements.
The preparation and checking of designs, calculations, drawings and documentation as part of the production of scheme deliverables that satisfy the overarching criteria of quality, cost and programme.
Overseeing the actions of more junior members of staff undertaking similar tasks and taking responsibility for their actions.
Responsibility for the commercial success of the projects within their portfolio, controlling budgets and managing the costs associated with the production of deliverables.
Liaising with client and supplier representatives at peer level, attending progress meetings, responding to queries, etc.
Significantly contributing to the preparation of bids and the general work‑winning function.
Driving effective health and safety practices within the team.
We Want To Hear From You If You Have
Developed experience and expertise within the relevant technical field, likely gained in a Senior Engineer role or equivalent.
Ability to produce technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements, working unsupervised and supervising more junior members of staff undertaking similar tasks.
Experience in undertaking project‑related tasks associated with the management of health, safety and welfare, e.g. Amey’s Integrated Management System and the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations.
Capability to act as day‑to‑day main engineering contact for a project where required under the terms of the commission, e.g. Contractor’s Responsible Engineer (CRE) for Network Rail schemes.
Knowledge, understanding and experience of design and specification process with ability to advise others (Design Team Leader for appropriate projects). Ability to check designs to a high standard.
Highly experienced with relevant software and similar analytical tools. Good ability to check work produced by others.
Very good understanding of CDM and risk assessment. Substantial experience in the management and communication of hazards and risks on projects, ensuring appropriate risk mitigation and transference has been applied.
Capability to act as Principal Designer for appropriate projects.
Supervisory and people‑manager skills. Capable of managing a medium‑sized, locally based single‑discipline technical team, including the people‑manager role.
Incorporated or Chartered status or an equivalent professional licence gained through the professional institution to which the individual is aligned is desirable and may be essential on particular contracts.
