Job Purpose The role is responsible for the provision of services in line with standards of Radiation Therapy Practice. As a key member of the frontline management team, the Radiation Therapist Senior will demonstrate professional, managerial and leadership skills and facilitate effective communication with colleagues in the hospital. The position requires a strategic approach to the development of services and structures, embracing continuous quality improvement and the management of changes necessary to achieve organisational objectives. Job Background/Context The Blackrock Health Hermitage Clinic is a private hospital providing a full range of medical and surgical care across a broad spectrum of specialities. Radiation Therapy provides a range of services including External beam Radiotherapy, Brachytherapy and Cyberknife Therapy and this role is important in making a significant contribution, developing and maintaining best practice in Radiation Therapy services. Key Responsibilities Demonstrate evidence based practice through decision making and apply it to complex cases Ensure that the Radiotherapy service delivered to patients meets professional and European standards of practice Provide advice and support to Radiotherapy and multidisciplinary colleagues on clinical practice issues Provide clinical leadership and instruction Be accountable for the treatment unit Maintain accurate information systems for clinical data in accordance with departmental and hospital policies Conduct on treatment assessment of patients Assessment of pre-treatment images and approval of verification images In depth assessment of treatment plan Final confirmation of radiotherapy treatment with specified time frame Display empathy and understanding even when exposed to distressing or emotionally affecting situations Always consult senior staff when unsure of the appropriate course of action Exhibit advanced physical skills including hand eye and sensory coordination and spatial awareness where fine detail is required and small margins for error exist Work independently and without the direct supervision of the Radiation Therapy Services Manager Maintain concentration at an intense level for extended periods frequently Demonstrate advanced clinical reasoning and knowledge in the assessment and treatment of patients Make judgment calls involving highly complex situations and scenarios which require analysis, interpretation and comparison of data from a range of sources Liaise with Physics team on equipment issues and report any concerns Plan specialist services, innovations and developments. Ensure that services are based on the latest research findings and constitute best practice. Develop close links with other healthcare facilities relevant to the delivery and enhancement of services. Monitor complaints and investigate any nursing and clinical complaints, taking corrective action as appropriate and review audit to ensure there are no re-occurrences. Ensure that all records are properly and accurately maintained. Facilitate effective communication with patients, relatives, visitors and multi-disciplinary team as necessary ensuring patient confidentiality is respected and maintained at all times. Communicate and develop effective relationships with Medical Consultants, Clinical Nurse Managers and other relevant hospital staff to ensure safe, efficient management of the Unit/Ward. Identify opportunities for the development of services that will improve the care of patients. Liaise with the Head of Clinical & Nursing Services on a regular basis, as appropriate, providing feedback on Department activity and issues. Ensure that systems for the provision of clinical and non-clinical services are satisfactory and that they are timely and economically utilised. Participate in an annual review of services including the preparation of an annual report. Ensure that all staff within the Department are familiar with the plan for management of critical incidents and that the Department is ready to meet such a demand. Work with the IT Department and clinicians in the development of computerised systems for patient management and ensure that these are maintained and upgraded. In consultation with staff continually monitor stock levels, suitability, usage and potential for savings. Advise the Head of Clinical & Nursing Services on alternative supplies and changes in practice which impact on costs. Provide advice to the Head of Clinical & Nursing Services on matters relating to the care of patients in the Department. Promote a patient centred culture of openness and responsiveness to positive and constructive patient feedback and ensuring patient dignity, respect and choice is maintained in their care. Essential Criteria Possess appropriate qualification in Radiation Therapy: BSc Radiation Therapy Be registered with the Radiographers Registration Board CORU. Have satisfactory post qualification experience and have proven clinical expertise Have experience of or be prepared to participate in research Why work with us?
