We at the 4 star Shearwater Hotel & Spa have an exciting opportunity for a Commis Chef to join our team.
Purpose / Overview: Provide back up and assistance to the chef on duty as required. Responsible for basic food preparation duties and preparing some meals as instructed by the chef on duty. Act as a leader to the Kitchen Porter team and remain actively involved in maintaining the overall hygiene and sanitary levels of the kitchen.
Duties & Responsibilities: Work with the Chef to coordinate and carry out the preparation of all meals. Consistently offer professional, friendly and proactive service and assistant to both guests and colleagues within the kitchen and interdepartmentally. Carry out meal preparation as instructed by the Head Chef/Senior Chef on duty. Become actively involved in planning and generating ideas relating to all food and menu items.
Key responsibilities include: preparing meals, maintaining proper rotation of product, having full knowledge of all menu items and daily specials, ensuring the cleanliness and maintenance of all work areas, utensils, and equipment, and following kitchen policies, procedures and service standards.
Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience: A food handler's certificate/food safety certificate and currently completing a relevant industry qualification. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, and proven understanding of the hospitality/tourism industry.
